Simon Cowell On Britney Spears' MTV "Comeback" Performance

Simon Cowell opened up about Britney Spears' recent MTV VMA performance."She stole the show whether you liked it or not. The only thing you heard about the following day was Britney Spears. It wasn't the best performance. She wasn't ready for it."Cowell added, "She's had more attention in the last 48 hours than any artist on the planet!"

On her wardrobe, Cowell stated, "She missed the snake…it wasn't a great outfit…I would have given her bigger shorts."

Cowell's advice to Britney is "Dump her friends….fire the stylist…be sensible…put her in rehearsal for four weeks, get her into the gym."

However, Mr. Mean admitted, "When she's on it, she's incredible."

"Get her into the gym"? - I wasn't paying attention to Extra and Access Hollywood for days following the VMAs, but I caught a few minutes of Extra the other day. They played a clip of Jay Leno saying something along the lines of, "Britney's been spending too much time at the buffet."

Years ago, Fiona Apple put it best when she said, "Every girl in fucking America has an eating disorder!"

I'd like to know why anyone in the psychology profession spends any time at all wondering and researching why girls, teens and females of nearly every age group have body image issues. However, I have to note that Britney's stomach looked like a slight gut during some parts of her performance. She wasn't wearing the right outfit for her "sexy" gyrating routine. Also, a majority of the fat comments must be coming from disappointed fans and critics who were let down by her performance. One of the first insults many give to others is by calling them "fat." When I say "others," I'm referring to females only. Females are called "fat" a disproportionate number of times than males, even if both sexes share similar physiques. A male's weight is given virtually no attention whatsoever unless he's morbidly obese, even then, he has to be a total jerk for people to insult him by calling him fat. It's like "fat" has become a widely accepted, standard insult for men and women to use against women.

This isn't a new trend, but it's a societal norm that's receiving an increasing amount of attention in mainstream media. A female's body is analyzed and critiqued faster than her talent or personality. Its got to stop. I disagree with Simon, Britney doesn't need to go to the gym, she just needs to stop dressing like a $5 hooker.

Sorry for my rant, but I had to get on my soapbox. It's disgusting that major media outlets are highlighting others who are calling Britney "fat." They're sending the wrong message. Alright, I'll exhale now...

I totally agree! It seems obvious that Britney has many other problems, yet her weight is the most commented on. Im really tired of magazines photoshopping women into robot stick people ( I am boycotting Glamour after what they did to America Ferrerra) and everyone in showbiz is either too fat or too thin according to the media. STOP THE MADNESS! There are soooo many other things worth talking about and that is NOT one of them.

Not only is Britney's weight irrelevant to the quality of her performance, how often do you hear men talked about in terms of how much they weigh?

Thanks for weighing in, (no pun intended) y'all - pun intended.

    :)

It's not really that she needs to lose weight.
Just, if she isn't going to get a little bit more toned... she shouldn't be wearing THAT outfit.
