ET and The Insider Do Damage Control, Cancel Heath Ledger Drug Use Video

The footage was bought for $200,000, was shot without Heath’s knowledge, at the Chateau Marmont hotel in L.A. following the SAG awards on January 29, 2006.

In the video, Heath is shown talking while at a private party after sniffing a cocaine-like substance off a table with a rolled up bill in his hand. As he speaks, his face noticeably twitches.

Heath says at one point, “I’m gonna get so much sh*t from my girlfriend. We have a baby together… Matilda, Matilda Rose.”

ET and The Insider planned to show the clip later this week.

After ET and The Insider were threatened, they decided to pull the footage “out of respect”:

The celebrity news programs have released a joint statement warning a media outlet that they will be subject to lawsuits and fines if they choose to show the video.

A lengthy clip of the drug video aired on their Wednesday broadcast. Millions of people have already watched the footage. It’s stories like these that make me feel bad about being a gossip blogger. R.I.P. Heath.

At some level, though, isn’t there value in showing this video? Aren’t we covering up for someone who should have made better decisions and taken better care of himself? I guess we don’t know what killed him until the autopsy comes out but I think it looks bad. And those who keep fallin gback on the police report that said no drugs were found should also note the huge gap in time between the masseuse calling MKO and her calling 911. The time difference affords one the chance to remove ANYTHING they wanted to.
