If you have a cell phone and a car, you’ve probably done the text and drive. But, I will also note that Kayla Preuss, 16, was also drunk driving. At 16, you’re definitely not a very good driver, coupled with driving while intoxicated and texting, she didn’t stand a chance. So sad.
A 16-year-old Highland girl who died after losing control of her car and crashing on the 10 Freeway had been texting on her mobile phone moments before the accident.
Kayla Preuss lost control of her Infiniti and slammed into the center median. The white 2004 G35 veered across the freeway, hit a guardrail, shot back across the road and hit the median again before coming to rest.
Kayla died within seconds of blunt injuries to her head.
Phone records show Kayla was texting moments before the accident, and her mobile phone, which was flipped open, was found resting on the floorboard by her feet, authorities said.
About 40 text messages had been sent over a three-hour period, the last of which was sent at 2:38 a.m., moments before the crash, a coroner’s investigation found.
“I hope it makes a lot of kids think,” said Kayla’s mother, Kelly Preuss.
There have been some of her friends who have gotten into accidents from texting, right after (Kayla’s death),” Preuss said.
Kayla had a blood alcohol level of 0.15 percent, coroner’s spokeswoman Sandy Fatland said.
Investigators determined alcohol and speeding (one witness reported Kayla had been driving about 90 mph) were the primary factors that led to the crash that killed Kayla. Ramos said there wasn’t enough evidence to prove that texting factored into the equation.
Um, texting may not be the entire cause for the accident, but drunk driving, speeding and texting doesn’t exactly help out either.
R.I.P. Kayla.

Well look what we gots here! As you know, Rachel showed up to watch Ryan dj a few weeks ago. They may have already reunited by then, but the official word is - Rachel and Ryan are a couple again.

Both Lindsay and Samantha are putting their right foot forward simultaneously, but Sam is doing so at a faster pace than Lindsay. Olympic swimmer and model Amanda Beard says she and Michael Phelps are so not an item.

UPDATE: After catching some flack, Amanda has apologized for her dumb joke.
“Everyone who knows me knows I can be a jokester, but I guess I took it too far. I never meant to say anything rude about Michael. I am 100-percent sorry for what I said. I take full responsibility for it.”
“When we are sitting in the stands, we are very grateful that Michael swims for the U.S. It’s cool to be a part of the team on which Michael won eight gold medals. Posh isn’t too happy about tabloid rumors saying she’s skinny because she pops diet pills. That’s insulting. She just starves.
Victoria wants to sue U.K.’s Now magazine over an article claiming she’s “hooked on sex and diet pills.”
“The accusation is dangerous, defamatory and blatantly untrue,” Beckham’s agent, Jo Milloy, said Monday, referring to the latter half of that statement.
“Victoria takes her position as a role model to young women very seriously and is horrified by this hurtful, fabricated story. It is now with her lawyers.”
The he said, she said inevitable Johnifer breakup rumors continue.
Reports are surfacing that John Mayer dumped Jen via text message, however, as you know, Jen says she’s the dumper, not the dumpee.
“She is so intent on getting married and having children, he felt hemmed in. After a 20-minute phone conversation, he just said, ‘I can’t take it any more,’ and hung up. Then he texted, ‘That’s it - the end’.”
Meanwhile, Aniston, 39, has thrown Mayer’s “let’s just be friends” request back in his face.
The former Friends actress is said to be furious the singer talked to the press about how “different chemistry” is the reason behind the break-up.
“Once again she feels she has been mislead by a man she cared deeply about, only to be left disappointed. Jen and John made a pact not to go public about their relationship when they were together and now they are apart he has gone and shot his mouth off at the first opportunity.
“She’s moving on and doesn’t want to see or hear from him again.”
It doesn’t sound like Jen’s moving on, she keeps getting her friends to diss John. Who cares if John dumped her haggard ass via text? We all saw this coming, why didn’t Jenny?

The rekindled “bromance” between Hills stars Brody Jenner and Spencer Pratt took a turn for the worse following the show’s season premiere party at Paradise Cove in Malibu Monday night.
Pratt approached new cast member and Lauren Conrad love interest Doug Reinhart, and began badmouthing his former best friend.
Just what did Pratt say?
“Spencer said he had no respect for Brody because he was always up Lauren’s ass,” the source says.
After this classy exchange, Pratt and the rest of the cast headed for a celebratory dinner at Nobu. But things got worse when Jenner found out what Pratt had said.
“They almost brawled right there in Nobu,” says the source. “Spencer kept saying ‘I’m gonna choke him out.’”
Luckily the squabble got under control and the guys managed to enjoy their dinners at separate tables. When it came time for the check, some MTV producers who were sitting with Pratt picked it up for everyone.
“[Brody] went over to Spencer’s table and thanked everyone for the dinner, then left,” says the source.
What some people will put up with for a free meal.
