On Twilight author Stephenie Meyer.
Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good.
I haven't read the Twilight books so I can't argue either side. All I know is that Stephenie Meyer is a rich "not very good" writer, so I don't think it matters to her or her fans what Stephen King thinks.
She's appealing, which Stephen King later added. I like many mediocre talents for a variety of reasons. Too many folk are caught up in striving to be the best but me thinks there will always be someone better than you in whatever it is that you do. You either go for it like Stephenie has, even though you're "not very good," or you doubt yourself and forfeit potential success.

Stephen King is amazing and completely right on this one. I read Meyer's first two "Twilight" books and they were crap! Little girls love it because of the romance and the vampires but the writing is god-awful.
(P.S. Love your blog!)

Stephen King was being polite. The books are awful. They not only read like they were written for a teenage girl, they read like they were written BY a teenage girl.
Of course, I only got through the first one. With difficulty.

King has a bad case of logorrhea but conceives of a story brilliantly. So as long as he allows an editor to work, he's a brilliant writer.
Just because Stephenie Meyer has made money from writing does not mean she's a good writer. Romance novelists make more money than any number of writers who don't write crap. Well paid crap is still crap.

Yeah, she's not such a great writer. Go to Google and look up "twilight is like a twinkie." Great comparison and metaphor about the books and why half the world doesn't care that they suck.
