Wanted: Fast Food Workers That Speak and Understand English

To put this post into context, I need to give a lil background info. I am a picky eater. I eat nothing that comes on a burger. Some of the foods and condiments that I don't eat include: tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, pickles, sour cream, avocado, eggs, and the list goes on. Because I don't eat many main ingredients and condiments, there is a whole lotta room for error when I order my food with English speakers. But, when I'm talking to someone who only knows English as a second language and speaks with a very thick accent, I tend to be out of luck.

On countless occasions, my food has been served with the specific item(s) I requested be removed. It has been frustrating enough to make me teary eyed. When you're starving and/or in a hurry and your order is served all janked up, it has been enough to send me into a belligerent, stink eye giving rage! Because, well, that's just how I be gangsta. Westsiiiide!

I remember this one time that I went to a McDonald's drive-thru. I was ordering food for myself and four others who weren't with me. I had to repeat my order about five times, no kidding, until the woman I gave my order to (abruptly and without warning) got off the microphone.

Suddenly, a man's voice asked if he could take my order. I asked 'What happened?' He said, "Oh, the woman you were talking to doesn't really speak English or understand it very well." I said, 'okay.' But after I got my food I cussed him the fuck out and I demanded to know why a non-English speaker was taking orders from, uh ... English speakers?!

Well well, I'm gonna end this post here, all, because I can type about this crap for days on end. Later this week, next personal/ sidenote story = Telephone Customer Service Agents in India! Grrrrrrr!

You go girl!!! and please dont get me started on those Indian call center agents! It's bad enough that you can't understand a word they say, but do they have to argue and debate about everything? it's like, hello! I'm the one with the complaint here!

Well said! Well said! That is really annoying. Lucky for me Spainsh was my minor in college so I can just as easy order in Spanish and then tell them to suck it in English. Trust me thou, most of them can speak english fine but when they are use to playing dumb to get all the free shit they want from us; insurance, health care, food, housing...that is they only way they play the game! WELL SAID!!!

Your comment makes me think of retail. Like, you want me to drop hundreds or thousands of dollars and you can't even say hi?! Or they don't even say shit when they are ringing you up? Bitch, please! I tend to buy my crap elsewhere if I feel that the service is that bad. ;)

    Craig,

You think that my orders are effed up just when I go in the drive-thru line?! NOPE. My orders have been ruined my entire life whether I'm in the drive-thru, walk-in or a sit down restaurant. I don't eat a lot of shiz, many items weren't listed cause I didn't wanna bore people. When workers don't speak or understand English, they're going to get orders like mine wrong. If only the world were that simple where it could all be solved if I walked into a fast food restaurant, I wouldn't have even posted this entry. :0

customer service has gone completely wrong and this is a perfect example of it. nobody cares anymore and i feel so old fashioned when i get mad for people simply not even greeting me right, but it really bugs me. poor customer service has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves.

Hahaha, *high-five* on cussing out those fast-food workers, FC! As you know, I frequent fast-food places and I can relate to those experiences, as well.

But yeah, some of those employees are among the most clueless, uneducated peeps in our human civilization. And it's amazing that some refuse to learn or grasp basic phrases of the English language. Or that they're even hired in the first place! After all, shouldn't that be a prerequisite by employers for those who need to deal with the public on a daily basis anyways?!?

I can't tell you how many times I've had to accelarate slowly past the drive-thru window shortly after receiving my order, and stop - fearful that they've effed something up. The ratio of them effing up because of a fundamental misunderstanding is probably 6/10 times.

Here's a solution, though: go inside to order your food. Yes, it may be more time-consuming, but in my experiences, the employees will more than likely listen and heed your order requests more accordingly :)
