Disney's first black princess, Princess Tiana - and the ‘white' Prince Naveen. Move over Snow White. Make room for Disney's first black princess.

With America's first African-American president in the White House, Disney is counting on an African-American princess to be a big hit in Hollywood. But even though The Princess and the Frog isn't released until later this year, it is already stirring up controversy.

For while Princess Tiana and many in the cartoon cast are black " the prince is not.

Which has led some critics to complain that Disney has ducked the opportunity for a fairytale ending for a black prince and princess. While some have hailed Disney's decision as a reflection of melting pot America, others say the company is sending out a mixed message.

Although the black princess's love interest in the new animated musical is called Prince Naveen of Maldonia and is voiced by a Brazilian actor, he looks more white than black in photographs from the film that Disney have released.

Well I effing love it!

this story is about a girl who wants to open a restaurant but is strugglin to save the money. She then ends up being turned into a frog by the masadonian prince. The story follows their journey back home, trying to become humans again. Why does everyone have to always turn things into black and white??? Just enjoy the movie.

This is a major blow to our African boys and the parents raising them.

Why must we put up with mixed couples, involving black people, portrayed in the media as the norm for black people when the opposite is true in reality as most black people are in black relationships. Again, in what way and for whom are mixed couples a "progression" ?

It only serves to weaken the ethnic minorities so that they become less of a political threat to the ethnic majority. Divided, cannot get on together, weakened ... and no longer a problem for the majority.

Black people will continue to suffer as the real problem will remain as strong as ever ... the black/African group/nation is a threat.

It is no suprise looking at the history of African Americans, not really embracing and feeling embarassed about their heritage, that some will see this as "progress" because all they have known, seen, been taught is that Western civilisation/society is absolutely supreme, cannot and shouldn't be questioned, is the glory, is good, is normal, ... is REALITY.

Given African Americans's history, and so our present, it is we out of other ethnic groups within America who should the most be trying to rewrite our history well into the future. Without knowing the African contributions to mathematics, science, architecture, spiritual science, astrology, langauge, law ... most African Americans will think that in order to BE we need other people (sound familiar ?). We have had our own complex, well organised civilisations for thousands of years without having to ask anyone to THINK or do anything for ourselves.

Whatever has a mixed couple ever done for black people in projects all up and down the country, the insane disproportion of black males in prisons, the single mothers, the violence, the gangs, the partitioning, colonial conquest and pilage of Africa ... the INSANITY because you cannot be left alone to be comfortable in your own skin.

Other ethnic communities within America are empowering themselves economically and socially and no one says nothing (Mexican, Chinese, Indian etc). Incidently I think Indians outside of India send millions of dollars back to India usually through business done in the States. No wonder they are a superpower for the future to rival China. They are consolidating themselves, usually by holding their culture close to their chest. Any stiff of black people doing similar and 'racist' is called out because it seems the idea of black people "getting it together" is threatening, uncomforting and awkward. AND THIS VERY SAME PSYCHOLOGY IS INTERNALISED BY TOO MANY BLACK PEOPLE.

America's plot will forever be to disempower black people. How exactly will this film help the people ... the men, women and children ? Some one really needs to break it down to me exactly how this film will benefit the WHOLE SPECTRUM within the black community in America, but more importantly how does it help to consolidate it ? How will it consolidate African people in America hundreds of years into the future with our hundreds of years of history within it ?

Why are people complaining that he's not black? So it's a multiracial couple. That's a good thing, in my opinion.

I really wish people would stop saying he's a white prince. Prince Naveen is oviously Hispanic or of a diff culture. It would have been something to see the first black prince though. I think that prince naveen is great also. I really can't wait to see the movie. I'm happy that there's finally a black disney princess. I feel that every black person should still support the movie because it's still the first african american princess. How do you know this is the only black disney film that they're going to make? I'm sure when they were making the characters they thought about a black prince of course, but maybe their planning on making another film using him in it with another black princess. Who knows?? The movie looks very interesting and if people are going to get upset over some color issue then that's really sad. If you have such a big issue of why the reason there isn't a black prince then write to Disney and stop ruining the moment for the rest of us. The movie's already made. Are you going to complain about it forever?!!
