Jessica Simpson Dropped From Record Label?

The economy strikes again?

OK! Magazine is reporting that my gurl Jessica Simpson has been dropped from her record label Columbia Nashville and her information has been removed from its website.

When OK! called Columbia Nashville, the label which released Jess's country album, a telephone operator told us that Jessica Simpson has now "come off the label."

I blame this all on the mom jeans! Those things never lead to good fortune. But Jess was also booed onstage for forgetting her lyrics and has had to start songs over again at different tour stops. Her Rascal Flatts crowds have been unsympathetic and she didn't do well when Tony Romo missed his flight and her performance.

Jess's first country single "Come On Over" made it to No. 18 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. This isn't the last we'll hear of Jessica, Papa Joe won't allow it. I hope she'll be joining the cast of Melrose Place with Ashlee Simpson. Heh.

You may have been joking about Jessica being affected by the economy, but you actually stumbled upon a feasible possiblity I hadn't thought of at all. I nominate Firecracker as next tresaury secretary!

I'm totally joking about the economy!!!! However, record labels have been losing so much money because of illegal downloading that they're slow to sign artists and quick to dump others. It's really sad.

It makes perfect sense that Jessica could have been the latest victim of our U.S. economy. Maybe Jessica demanded a higher percentage of earnings with the success of her last country album, or whatever, which could have resulted in her Columbia not coming to financial terms.

Columbia is gripped by the economy and is probably concerned about pulling back on its finances more than ever now, so it's quite possible. Hey, forget about Melrose Place, how about another Dukes of Hazzard film! *Gag* :)
