2009 Costume Institute Gala Red Carpet Pics

The Costume Institute Gala is the event to show up in your best glamorous or dapper ensemble and hope that you'll be a fashion hit in a sea of your industry peers who've also put in equally as much effort with their stylists.

There were some misses, but overall there were many many hits. Some celebrities like Madonna and Leighton Meester seemed to take the whole 'Costume' thing a little too literally and looked disastrous. Rihanna also thought that she should look like Prince in heels in a tuxedo with intense makeup and a tragic highlighted comb-over hairdo.

Standouts include Blake Lively, Anne Hathaway, Elizabeth Hurley and Victoria Beckham.

Faux pas/ boring outfit awards go to Jessica Alba, Katy Perry, Ashley Olsen and Amber Rose.
