I do not know where to begin with this post, but I am furious! Yep, it's great that Kris Allen won, I guess, but I think that Adam Lambert's sexuality played a huge role in this season's outcome. Whew! Okay. I will attempt to be calm.
I pretty much only heard Kris Allen sing tonight. Yeah, I heard him sing Kanye's "Heartless," but every time Kris would perform, I wouldn't pay attention, or maybe I would, but I would forget his performances. He does not stand out. He got lucky. He is Taylor Hicks 2.0. The only difference between Kris and Taylor is that Kris plays instruments and he's more talented; but he's like every other artist you hear on a street corner or at a college party. Many have tried to be another John Mayer, if that's the direction Kris is going in, and many have failed.
I'm pretty speechless right now. Speechless. I will attempt to regroup and write something halfway decent in the morning. I had so many thoughts, but my mind is going blank. Typing about the finale makes it more real and I am confused.
One thing I will say is that AMERICAN IDOL DID NOT ANNOUNCE KRIS ALLEN'S PERCENTAGE OF VOTES OR ADAM LAMBERT'S PERCENTAGE OF VOTES. WHY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And when Ryan Seacrest asked Kris what he has to say about winning American Idol, Kris said, "Adam deserves this. I'm sorry." I couldn't agree more!

Okay I know you are beyond distraught but why would American Idol fix the results after skewing the show towards Adam this whole entire season? Yes, the show is rigged, I feel like the producers wanted Adam to win, but even so Kris won. In my eyes that says something.

I was rooting for Kris and am glad HE WON! He deserved it. As far as the slam against Taylor Hicks. Do your research before posting untrue statements. Taylor Hicks plays guitar and harmonica very well and is very talented and successful. Success is not decided buy record sales alone.

First off, when Taylor Hicks won American Idol, it was no upset. He was NEVER in the bottom three, he was the most popular of ALL the contestants, he won by a landslide. The comment that KRIS and TAYLOR are alike? LMAO, how? Because both of them WON Idol? Come on, "Kris plays instruments and Taylor doesn't?", excuse me? LMAO. Taylor plays the guitar and the harmonica.
The only reason I'm here would be because of Taylor's name on a google alert for this website. Why people are freaked I have no idea, you have to VOTE people, that's what you do, you VOTE for a winner and for your choice. IF AI's history is still the same, which I believe it to be, Adam has signed a contract, he will get a recording deal, he will be get as many spins as Daughtry has on ALL the radio stations around the country, (that would be about 100 or more a day), he will have a album, he will have a tour and video, he will be pimped to high heaven, that is, as long as he stays in favor with TPTB at AI and I have no doubt that he will do that.
Kris? HE won, so therefore he gets his million dollar recording contract. AI is obligated for that. As long as he is with AI's label. and their management company, he will please his fans. IF he leaves the AI label, he will fade into oblivion because he is very average at best even though he's an attractive guy who is also a musician. That said, leave Taylor Hicks out of this conversation, its obvious you know NOTHING about him at all. Thanks and take two asprins or whatever and get on with what's important in life. This is very childish.

Wow Amanda,
You might be the first person I have heard fight for Hicks with so much energy. Hicks was a very likeable guy on the show, but has has nowhere near the talent one would assume you need to win AI. Big deal, he can play the guitar and harmonica. I'm guessing 50 million others in the US can play it just as well as him. Can he sing? Not really! Can he entertain? Ya, somewhat, but I'm sure it gets old pretty quick. I like Hicks as a person on AI but knew he would never be big...IN TERMS OF RECORD SALES, because in the end, thats what the label wants, RECORD SALES. You don't sell records, go play your harmonica and guitar on the street to earn your $$.
The better talent on AI this season was Adam...the most marketable is 100% Kris Allen! That is why he won. I said it before and I was right. Lambert is only going to be marketable with a select group, where as Allen can be marketed for all ages, shapes and colors. This was almost a no brainer. I can't understand why so many people or shocked over this.

Considering that all four Idol judges and millions of viewers were heaping praise on Adam's extraordinary talents throughout the last several weeks (more so than Kris), I am still extremely stunned that Kris won American Idol last night. Adam THOROUGHLY dominated Kris in head-to-head competition in that span of time.
This is 2009 and a large part of the U.S. is still anti-gay in its beliefs, so homophobia may have very well played a role in Adam losing last night. His loss was probably a referendum on how the country feels about someone with his sexuality becoming more powerful and coming into prominence, which is something that older, conservative, etc. viewers haven't come to grips with yet.
Yes, a reason Adam could have also lost Idol was because some people became tired of his screaming and theatrics in the last few weeks. A friend of mine felt that way in her opposition to Adam as well.
More than anything, however, could it be that Adam's defeat could have been largely the result of his fans assuming that he was safe so they did not bother voting at all. After all, it has been inactive voting that has caused front-running contestants of Idol's past to not advance in the competiton.
So yeah, congrats to Kris winning American Idol last night. He is a multi-talented person who can play multiple instruments, but I've gotta agree with Firecracker that he's generic in his abilities (singing, personality, etc) and won't stand out in a mass of people if it weren't for Idol. As a poster noted above, he was probably the most marketable, and I feel safest choice in a head-to-head comparison to Adam.
But still, speculation (in which I stated here on POTP) still runs rampant in my head about Adam's loss in Idol last night. He will inevitably advance to larger opportunites now. As I said, I feel it was a combination of anti-gay beliefs and Adam's fans who assumed he would win the competition that resulted in his loss last night.
Still difficult for me to imagine Kris as the Idol winner the following day..

@ Gaz,
You got it right! :)

I am absolutely, 100% convinced he didn’t win because people couldn’t handle him being gay.Bigots! I am so pissed off about this. Adam was robbed!
May 21st, 2009 1:31 PM
@ Firecracker - Not to disagree with you at all, but the scenario (you eluded to) in your comment is certainly feasible, but Adam was leading in a lot of unscientific Idol polls by sizable percentage points leading up to the Idol finale. So wouldn't that scenario be more applicable to if the results were rigged?

jesus here we go with the cries of homophobia, he didnt win cause America is still anti-gay... STFU! he lost cause A.I. severely underestimated how far they could shove him down our throats before being regurgitated back up once we all realized who is really behind him. he is mediocre at best but because hes gay hes untouchable... gay americans are the new Black Americans, if adam isnt the best and you simply say you dont think he is the best EVER you will be forever labeled 'anti-gay', get over it folks, America isnt anti-gay as much as ANTI-UNTALENTED LOSER!

Oh, no you didn't, Mr. B!
Hellz, nah!
Nice to see ya flyin' your own personal freak flag, being sure to cover both racial and sexual orientation in one seriously, uh, "interesting" post.
I agree that not liking Adam based on his singing ability or talent is allowed, natch, but you personally have kinda let the color (pun intended) of your viewpoint be known outside of what you are trying to preach about. Pink and the darker tones just aren't for ya. Gotcha. Unfortunately for you, they are here to stay. Damned hard working that color wheel, eh?
Sorry, Fire, guess that's my cue to give a rest for a while....peace!
