Kate Gosselin Spanks Leah Gosselin
Kate Gosselin treats her husband Jon Gosselin like sh*t, but does that also mean that she treats her children like crap? Kate did deny her daughter Mady a sip of water while taping Access Hollywood years ago.
Now Kate Gosselin has been caught hitting her daughter Leah. Many are calling this child abuse, and honestly, with Kate's poor public image, this doesn't help. Kate hit her daughter once. If she indeed beat her - as in hit her repeatedly - the paparazzi would have been all over it and they would have shot hundreds of pics and sold a few dozen. But this shot shows one slap to the booty.
I was spanked as a child and I believe in spanking. I think the problem with spanking is that it often turns into beating and it's something parents do when they're upset. It's no longer about discipline, it's about releasing their anger and frustration out upon their child, which is wrong. I also don't believe in spanking past the age of five years old. Children should be spanked, not kids and certainly not teenagers. That's awkward and damaging to their self-esteem.
More important, parents should never embarrass their children in public whether that's in the form of spanking, verbal abuse or any other method. Good self-esteem helps us all to make better decisions in life. LMAO. I sound like I'm tryna be Dr. Drew. I'm too effed up to be handing out parenting tips especially when I'm not a parent.
In summary, Kate's an idiot for spanking Leah in public so she kind of deserves the backlash. That was an impulsive move on her part and she'll never live it down.

Most compelling of all reasons to abandon this worst of all bad habits is the fact that buttock-battering can be unintentional sexual abuse for some children. There is an abundance of educational resources, testimony, documentation, etc available on the subject that can easily be found by doing a little research on "spanking".
Just a handful of those helping to raise awareness of why child buttock-battering isn't a good idea:
American Academy of Pediatrics,
American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,
Center For Effective Discipline,
PsycHealth Ltd Behavioral Health Professionals,
Churches' Network For Non-Violence,
Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu,
Parenting In Jesus' Footsteps,
The LDS Chuch (http://education.byu.edu/youcandothis/spanking.html click "quotes on spanking")
Global Initiative To End All Corporal Punishment of Children,
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
In 26 countries, child buttock-battering is prohibited

Child buttock-battering vs. DISCIPLINE:
Child buttock-battering for the purpose of gaining compliance is nothing more than an inherited bad habit.
Its a good idea for people to take a look at what they are doing, and learn how to DISCIPLINE instead of hit.
I think the reason why television shows like "Supernanny" and "Dr. Phil" are so popular is because that is precisely what many (not all) people are trying to do.
There are several reasons why child buttock-battering isn't a good idea. Here are some good, quick reads recommended by professionals:

@Firecracker - I stand corrected. You know that Kate is fully conscious that the paparazzi continues to trail her virtually every public move but I feel she's now desentitized to their presence. As a result, I agree she was acting impulsively too. Parents don't wanna embarrass their children, and like I said, some act in an unknowingly irrational fashion in these situations.
Also, I doubt Kate's Q Rating can go any lower with this incident..

@ Gyllenhaal,
Agreed. People don't like Kate. If Reese Witherspoon or NeNe (ha) or Katie Holmes did the same thing, no one would make it out like they're abusers.
@ Craigmackk,
You misunderstood me. I don't think parents spank their kids in public out of embarrassment. I said that Kate acted impulsively, clearly forgetting that she's a public figure.
If a kid acts up in public, it should be dealt with at the time. Doesn't mean a spectacle should be created, but take that kid in the corner and give 'em a good talking to at minimum.
Also, in this post I said "poor public perception" when I meant to say "poor public image." I was racing out the door. Busy day today. I'm back now...

There is nothing wrong with spanking children that are disobedient. Children must respect their parents and their elders and learn that their are negative consequences for their negative behavior as children and not adults, when they can be locked up in prison. Parent should not physically abuse their children but a good spanking on their behinds sometimes is needed!
