Perez Hilton Apologizes!

Did anyone else think that they would never see the day? Perez Hilton has apologized for calling Will.I.Am a "f*cking fa**ot." Perez's statement is thorough and candid and kind of perfect, with the exception of reminding us that " violence is never the answer" (victim mode), and he's "NOT apologizing to GLAAD."

Mario Lavandeira has been hurt over his recent choices and the consequential backlash. Perez Hilton did a great job with this humbling statement. Very well done.

People make mistakes. I have made many in my life, but this past week I have made more than I can count on one hand.

I am sorry. And I mean it. No one is forcing me to write this. I am not feeling pressured to say this. I am speaking out because I realize that the last few days have been more hurtful to me - and many others - than the repeated blows I suffered to my head in Toronto this past weekend.

I have been filled with incredible sadness and regret.

I am sorry that any good work I have done for promoting equality may be tainted by me reclaiming a hurtful word - that’s been personally used against me and the gay community - to hurt someone that was verbally attacking me. It was stupid.

Apologizing for me is not easy. Writing this was not easy. Life is not easy. But everything happens for a reason and I will take away a lot of valuable lessons from this experience.

Violence is never the answer. Never.

Victims should not be mocked.

The “F” word will never be uttered from my lips again. Just as others use the “N” word to insult and hurt - or as part of their everyday speech - I challenge them to remove it from their vocabulary as well.

Hindsight is always 20/20, they say. I should have been the bigger man and walked away from an unfortunate situation. Instead, I chose - in a very misguided way - to stand up for myself and only made things worse by how I - under pressure, anger and extreme emotion - handled the situation.

I am sorry.

I am NOT apologizing to GLAAD. I could care less about them, my former employers.

I am apologizing to the gay community, to anyone who was hurt by my choice of words, and to all the people who have ever emailed me to thank me for all that I have done to fight for gay rights over the last few years.

I have reached out to Isaiah Washington, someone I incorrectly labeled a homophobe in the past, despite his own public statements that he was not.

I will be donating any money collected from my lawsuit against Polo Molina, road manager for the Black Eyed Peas, to the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

And I will continue to speak out for equality and support the great work done by LGBT organizations, such as LAMBDA Legal and HRC.

Sincerely,

Perez

He's about as sincere as he's every going to be. But I'd like to see him apologize for all the sexist comments he is so fond of making, too. Oh, wait . . . only men count. My bad.

He is almost sincere, but only after being beaten over the head once more in the court of public opinion. He knows he is beat on this one and wants to bite the bullet before getting more bad press. His attempts at sincerity kinda suck and I am only mildly ashamed to say I laughed watching his first response videos. Jay, the victim thing got me too. So when celebs are living their lives, they are fodder, but when it happens to be that he is the center of attention - he is a human being. Um. No. Suck it up.

Perez seemed contrite in his statement but something tells me he was bowing to the growing backlash against him, though. Nice, carefully-crafted statement. In there, it was still nice he was seeking to make amends with Isiah Washington and others he's chastised in the past, too.

And GLAAD? Interesting he didn't apologize to that organization. Given that they were one of his former employers, I'm wondering if he had some sort of feud and a subsequent falling out with them at some point.

The GLAAD-Perez relationship is a whole other backstory...

There's about as much sincerity in that "apology" as there is welcome for Will.i.am at a David Dukes rally.

I find it offensive he continues to play the victim card (and by that I mean he really isn't taking responsibility for his use of an offensive term..note the "reclaim" statement; he wasn't reclaiming ANYTHING..he was instigating. Be honest if you are truly contrite. Yeah, thought so.)It's appalling he includes Matthew Shepard's name in any way, shape, or form. That was a victim of violent crime, hate personified. Perez comes no where in the universe to that.

As to people emailing him with congrats for all his work for equal rights...please. If turning straight got him the attention and dollars he's received he'd be there in a minute. He's a narcissistic worm who got caught up in the bad apple he grew himself.

    Choke on it, dude.
