Jay-Z On Kanye West: 'I Don't Think He Was Wrong'

Beyonce's hubby Jay-Z spoke out about the Kanye outburst at the VMAs. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything at all because he's riding the fence!

Jay-Z said what Kanye did was bad, but he wasn't wrong. Huh?!? Make up your mind, was he in the wrong or not? I think Jay would bust a dudes *ss if they tried to pull that trick while he was accepting an award!

"I just think that that's what he believed. I thought it was rude, I thought it was inappropriate and I told him as much." However, the "Run This Town" hit maker admits he would have preferred to see his wife Beyonce pick up the award too. Jay-Z adds, "I don't think he was wrong."

Jay also thinks all the media attention on what happened is out of hand.

"The way they're treating him… He's on the cover of every paper. He didn't kill anybody. No one got harmed. (He's just) a super passionate person."

There's a difference between being passionate and being a total *sshole. Kanye showed what a complete fool he can be by ruining Taylor Swift's moment. I don't care if he was drunk. Alcohol or not, he's still Kanye West and that's how he rolls.

I love me some J but to say that no one got hurt is completely false. You could she it in Taylor's face. It was so sad. If someone did this shit to Beyonce, I would love to see what he had to say then. I bet he would be singing a different tune. PS She won video of the year which is a much bigger accomplishment than the one Taylor won.

Jay-Z is correct in that the media coverage of KanyeGate has been wildly extreme over the last couple weeks. I also agree with him that it is perhaps more than it should be in a large number of instances, too.

BUT, it's Kanye West, someone with a high-profile status - who has higher expectations in which to satisfy for media and fans, as well. More lofty expectations than the average second-tiered performer. That's the main reason why he is widely being persecuted right now.

Strings attached due to his status.

In my opinion, Kanye is now a martyr for his poor decorum at the VMAS and I can understand why Jay-Z would be defending Kanye in the first place. Because they are friends. But, Jay-Z is partially justifying Kanye's on-stage behavior by saying he was correct in surmising that Beyonce should have won Taylor Swift's award.

Just let Kanye pay the price for how he acted and shut up already, Jay-Z.

It just also occurred to me that Jay-Z may partly be speaking out right now because of his "Blueprint" album that was recently released. After all, voicing a provocative opinion = publicity.

    Could it be?! Hmmmm....

Ok. I love how people are acting like this is something new or surprising. It's KANYE, folks. This is how he is. And for those who are unaware, it suuuure isn't the first time he's said something that *cough* (white) people don't agreee with.
What if Kanye had done this to a black female celebrity, like Keri Hilson? It wouldn't have gotten the publicity and back lash that it's gotten. Just a thought.
Here's what Jay-Z meant. He doesn't agree with what Kanye DID, but he does agree with what Kanye SAID. I feel the same way. Obviously, Taylor Swift is not in the same league as Beyonce, and did NOT deserve to win. Nobody is addressing that, EXCEPT FOR KANYE!!
Kanye was not dissing Taylor. He was dissing white America.
Don't get mad at the man for telling the truth. And please quit acting like he's the only celebrity who has "acted out".

  5. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

Wow Kristen, being a white man I must truly be blind. I don't see how him being an arrogant pigheaded (who I would do) asshole and rudely interrupting someones acceptance speech in anyway shap or form disses white america?? What is does is show what a lack of restraint this douche has over his actions. Regardless what you or Kanye thought she did win and she deserved that moment for herself. What he said is irrelevent because all he does is talk out his ass but what he did is what matters! I guess White America sees it different thou.

  6. Craigmackk Says:

    @ Kristen -

Agreed that Kanye's previous erratic behavior (including past award shows) have led to increased media coverage. Kanye makes good water-cooler talk, which also provides higher ratings for certain media outlets and entertainment shows.

However, I have never once thought of nor attached any philosophical race issues Kanye may have to his on-stage antics at all! That's just far-reaching. Maybe Kanye is just not a fan of country music or of Taylor and was voicing his support for Beyonce. But I have viewed no evidence that suggests Kanye was somehow "dissing white America," on-stage, though..

Doesn't mean that people have to accept it. Kanye was rude and got some serious backlash. I hope he has learned both his lesson and a little humility from this.

  8. Jimi J Says:

Jay Z is a racist too I see! White women wins and the black people flip out I guess as usual.

  9. Lil'T Says:

Jay-Z originally asked Kanye to do that because of how "dramatic" he is. Sad, but true. Look at him now. Kanye must've learned a big lesson, but Jay-Z needs to learn to think first before he acts. I mean, he even left Beyonce behind because she was (supposedly) disloyal to the Roc family when she gave Taylor Swift a second chance to give her acceptance speech. Like, c'mon Jay! Get real and own up to your responsibilities!

It's time for better music and all other entertainment for 2010.

The award was one voted on by fans. Therefore whoever won deserved to win. Period. Jay-Z and Kanye Kente need to stfu and go away. They stopped being relevant a long time ago.
