Adam Lambert AMA Performance Prompts Complaints at ABC
Approximately 1,500 people called into ABC to complain about Adam Lambert's raunchy American Music Awards performance. Adam's sex show was broadcast live and unedited on the East Coast, but ABC made some edits for West Coasters.
ABC is calling the response "moderate." Um, okay. Last week Adam Lambert said that his performance is "gonna be sexy." Um, okay, again.
Lambert said the backlash against the performance was "a form of discrimination and a double standard" because for decades "women performers have been pushing the envelope."
On his Twitter account, Lambert wrote, "All hail freedom of expression and artistic integrity. Fans: I adore u."
Freedom of expression in the United States of Sexual Repression has its limits. Just ask Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. Adam clearly did not respect those boundaries. I applaud his efforts, but his performance sucked. He didn't even own it. It was too calculated, awkward, and his gay kiss was more like an aggressive attack on his keyboardist's face than anything remotely sexy.
The performance was subpar, which makes it not worth all the controversy. Adam's team is probably going to have a lot of explaining to do every time he wants to perform on live TV again. It's definitely time to tone it down and shake us up more later on.

Now, I love me some Adam. I really do, but that was one of the most contrived performances I have ever seen from a new artist and it has NOTHING to do with him being gay. He needs to stop running that.The performance sucked. Period. It’s too bad because with a voice his, he didn’t need to resort to gimmicks like this. Madonna he ain’t. What he did was perpetuate every stereotype of gay men that there is and he did more of a disservice to them if anything else. I was watching the show with kids that love Adam and wanted to stay up late to watch him because they loved him on AI. You should have seen the look on their faces! I was mortified and pissed off to say the least. Epic fail on Adam’s part. I’m so disappointed.

Adam, don't try to tell anyone you "love them"!! You can't even be decent enough to respect those who you consider fans!! You're a LOSER!! Just who do you think you are, punk? You're a NOTHING!!

Adam,this is disappointing to me. I was hoping that you would handle yourself like Elton John has. He has always made it about his music- You have great talent but I think you ruined for yourself. I'm 62 years old, and enjoyed you on American Idol-showing all your musical dimensions- how sad you chose this route.
