Rihanna: Forced to Talk About Domestic Violence in Glamour Magazine

Whew! Inhale, exhale, Firecracker be nice. Rihanna is promoting her comeback album, Rated R, so she's finally talking about domestic violence. Keep in mind that Rihanna was attacked by Chris Brown nearly one year ago, but she has a record to sell, therefore it's time for advocacy!

Rihanna hot on Glamour magazine

Rihanna tells Glamour, "I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn't heard. Now I can help speak for those women." - This is news to me! Alright, I'll post the rest of her comments without saying much. I don't consider speaking to the media while saying 'My album drops November 23rd' as standing up and representing anyone but her record label and herself, but I digress.

Glamour actually named Rihanna the Woman of the Year. She will be honored in a special ceremony at Carnegie Hall on Nov. 9. Perhaps I need to back off. Maybe I would have crawled under a rock if the world saw a humiliating picture of my face all bruised up. It's easier to point fingers when you haven't been there. I still think 'Woman of the Year' is a stretch for many reasons, but Glamour's interested in a*s-kissing with RiRi, and they do it well.

Rihanna on where she's been in the past nine months:

"My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see. They have followed every step of my recovery. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn't heard. Now I can help speak for those women."

Rihanna on the leaked picture of her battered face:

"It was humiliating; that is not

a photo you would show to anybody. I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it’s my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women."

On having everyone suddenly all up in her business:

"I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day. It was like, What, there are helicopters circling my house? There are 100 people in my cul-de-sac? What do you mean, I can’t go back home?"

On being like a great role model or something:

"I am stronger, wiser and more aware. You don't realize how much your decisions affect people you don't even know, like fans."

On her new album, Rated R:

"I've put everything I've wanted to say for the past eight months into my music. [It's] super fearless – which is exactly how I feel right now. I am in a really good place."

Speak out about what? POTP, you along with TMZ have noted that Rihanna has been violent with Chris Brown. Why oh why does no one hold her accountable for her actions? Does that mean she deserves what she got from Brown? No. But she's no innocent victim. She's got a lot of looking in the mirror to do.

How laaaaaame. Rihanna is NOT a positive role model in any way, shape, or form. Women are abused everyday, why aren't average "joes" so to speak, on the cover of Glamour? Women with less money, less opporotunity, and a lot more to lose are heroes in my book when they overcome domestic violence, or any abuse of any kind. I was so empathetic for Rihanna when the story 1st broke out. Then when I heard she got back with him, while millions of lil girls out there are looking up to her, I thought, what a dumb bitch. She deserves 2 get knocked out again. She's so whack. Kudos to Rihanna, her huge forehead, & Glamour for their ingenious and disgusting ways to talk about domestic violence to sell mags and cd's. And NO this CAN NOT happen to ANYBODY. Because I fall into the category of "anybody" and I would NEVER let a man talk down to me, let alone lay a finger on me. She's retarded.

She could have said something earlier, yes, but at the same time I'm glad she took her time to speak out about this.

This is all a mixture of ego and a symbiotic relationship on both fronts IMO: Rihanna is using Glamour Magazine to promote her apparent "new self" and album, while Glamour is taking advantage of Rihanna well-publicized and perhaps burnished image to place said self on its cover sell additional copies of its magazine.

And of course Rihanna's revelations coincides with the dropping of Rated R. What celebrity wouldn't come out of the woodwork to reveal ish about their life for ultimate greed and self-fulfillment when they have a new project? It just doesn't feel right otherwise, but I digress. Haha.

Like a tell-all book, she is clearly seeking to make provocative statements of her own personal life, geared to ramping up revenue on her new album. In the process (and as I eluded to above), she now wants to portray herself as cleansed and a champion of all women for having had survived Chris Brown's beatings, too.

Further, it should not surprise anyone that Rihanna is on

Um, I guess it's good that she finally is taking a public stand. But I don't know how I feel. Kinda like when Rosie O'Donnell came out as a lesbian just when her book was being released. It all seems like a marketing decision to me. And if she really wants to be a voice for young women, why did she take the bastard back?
