I say: BOTH! As one of my blogging buddies once pointed out, Taylor Swift is boring. My idea of musical talent involves how one sounds on vinyl as well as and how one performs live.
Taylor's live vocals are great, but from what I've seen of her live, she's kind of like Kris Allen: Make sure you have a cozy seat cause you may doze off. She's a cute blonde sweetheart, though, so she's loved.
I feel like Taylor has a lot of fans because people are like GASP! She's a young singer and she writes her own songs and plays an instrument! I love Taylor for creating her own art. So the question remains: Does she deserve all the accolades and praise that's showered on her like a girl in R. Kelly's hotel room? I think we should give her more time to really blow us away, but fans and industry folks just don't seem to want to slow their roll.
Taylor comes in at #2 in MTV's Women of 2009 list: Taylor Swift showed the ladies how it's supposed to be done by sweeping up a shelf-load of awards, notching the year's biggest-selling album (Fearless) and surviving the most notorious awards-show bum-rush in modern memory with her signature grace, dignity and class.
Reading that little blurb makes me wonder if Kanye West had any idea of who the eff he was messing with? He may have thought that Taylor was a one-hit wonder or a newbie; boy was he dead wrong!
