Paul Shirley: 'Haiti Doesn't Need Our Money'

Paul Shirley doesn't have a lot of love in his heart. In fact, it's a cold, empty, shallow place. Paul was so worked up about other people contributing to Haiti earthquake relief efforts, he posted a blog about why he's not giving "a cent" to the impoverished country.

Shirley played basketball for the Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks and Phoenix Suns. In a disturbing 2,000-word article, the former athlete said, "I haven’t donated to the Haitian relief effort for the same reason that I don’t give money to homeless men on the street... If I use history as my guide, I don’t think the people of Haiti will do much with my money either."

ESPN has since fired Shirley from his part-time freelance blogging gig. Paul issued the following letter to the people of Haiti:

Dear Haitians –

First of all, kudos on developing the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Your commitment to human rights, infrastructure, and birth control should be applauded. As we prepare to assist you in this difficult time, a polite request: If it’s possible, could you not re-build your island home in the image of its predecessor? Could you not resort to the creation of flimsy shanty- and shack-towns? And could some of you maybe use a condom once in a while?

Sincerely,

The Rest of the World

Paul doesn't have to donate any money, we get that. But he's insensitive and dumb as sh*t. You know how many men don't "use a condom once in a while" in every country on the planet?! It was just reported yesterday that teen pregnancy rates in the States are up by 3%!

If Paul really wants Haiti to be progressive, how does he suggest that Haiti restore and advance itself as a country if the only thing he can come up with is telling Haitians to "use a condom once in a while"? His strategy for helping those in need, like homeless people, is to simply do nothing. Great plan, asshole!

This show you how idiotic most people are. Up until 1987, Haiti was the rischest Black Country in the world. If you idiots have done your research before saying idiotic things you would save your credential! The WTO is responsible for lowering tariffs to 1% allowing US farmers to export agribusiness to Haiti killing the agribusiness in Haiti -- (Haiti was once one of the top 5 exporter of sugar and other things) and further, the IMF is responsible cause to obtain aid Haiti was forced to open its border for international trades with the US. Haiti was always selfsufficient up until that point. Do your research before saying idiotic things! The question everyone should ask is how come there are no powerful black country in the world. Also, Haiti send troops to Columbia to help them fight for peace and democracy and money to its carribean allies and DR. Again do your freaking research idiots!!! Haiti wil rise again and stronger and will once again take the lead as the 'only' black rich nation!

If you are not donating anything for a worthy cause, you do not have to
advertise it.I do not care, but when you go out of the way to make a public announcement that you are not donating, you have not told anything
about Haiti, but more than what we needed to know about you.The past two weeks, I have seen people lose more than what they had including,a place to lay their head,a place to sit, food, clean clothing, the bare essentials of comfort and security. You have been "blessed"with all of these things. An
earthquake is serious devastation and it changes lives.THINK AGAIN!!

In recent weeks,The White House, volunteers, military families, everyday
people, stars and small children, have donated time and money to help people a small world away, who in just a few seconds lot their way of life.
People being buried alive, and people risking their lives to help.In this life, we never know who we are going to need. You may think that you have it all, which as it stands may be a good thing for you,but because the people in Haiti, have losted so much, after the supplies become more readily they will be more appreciative of their blessings than you are right now.PEACE!
