Kate Middleton Isn't a Virgin, Do People Care?

It's a tradition that the royal bride should be a virgin on her wedding day, and Kate Middleton? Well, she's only been living with her fiance for years and she's had relationships before William. She doesn't have a cherry to pop, so do the Brits see this as problem?

Sources claim that British people have become more tolerant since Prince Charles married Diana Spencer, who was a virgin when she got hitched. "Few people" seem bothered by Kate's pre-marriage sexing. I think, if anything, people must trust that William and Kate will work out, they've only been together eight years. They're compatible, which is a good thing.

That’s a marked turnaround from the days preceding Charles and Diana’s 1981 marriage. There was a general expectation that Diana would not have dated before her engagement to the heir to the throne, and her own uncle came out publicly to declare her a “bona fide” virgin.

"William made his own space and he decides what he wants to do and when he wants to do it,” Arbiter said. The British public seems comfortable with the royal family having updated its unwritten behavior codes to bring them more in line with widely held social values.

“There is no longer an investment in being anachronistic, or a public expectation that they ought to be harkening back to a different era of sexual politics.”

Whatever. I am strongly opposed to living with your boyfriend or girlfriend before marriage. That's one of the most effective ways a woman can make sure that she won't get married! Prince William is one of the most famous people on the planet, naturally he's going to have trust issues and he's going to try to stick with the same chick for as long as he can. Most women who live with their partner for years don't make it down the aisle, and couples that live together first have a 50% higher divorce rate.

"That's one of the most effective ways a woman can make sure that she won't get married!" Apparently a woman has no worth - to herself or others - unless she's married. I seem to recall that many women choose to be unmarried or (thanks to things like Prop 8) don't have the ability to get married.

But she was NEVER a virgin, even when she met Williams...sure to lead to a divorce...

I think if two people can't make their relationship work because one party leaves the seat up, farts, or is messy, than they shouldn't be together to begin with and probably won't last anyway.

Married people work harder at their relationship than those who aren't married - one can work their way around a seat up or other little quirks and differences.

I think many women are mislead into thinking that living together makes for a stronger relationship or that it will lead to marriage, it doesn't, and the longer one sticks around, the more unlikely it is that the relationship will lead to marriage.

Most people that invest nearly a decade of their time into someone walk away empty-handed, but good for Kate. She has a prince! - First Things

I disagree about living together before marriage. There are lots of people I love, but I just can't live with them. Living together helps you figure out if you're compatible on the day-to-day level. If your prospective spouse leaves the toilet seat up, farts all day, and has track marks on his shorts, you want to know that BEFORE you say "I do." Those are serious deal breakers in my book. Better to take the guy for a test drive before you sign the deal.

As for Kate's virginity, I really don't give a shit about them. I'm totally over hearing about the royal wedding. I'm way more concerned about Snooki's cooter.
