Best known for portraying the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, or being named our Because He’s Hot guy, twinkly-eyes Armie Hammer will now be putting his pretty little face behind an iconic black mask and cowboy hat.

Armie has just been officially selected to play the Lone Ranger in Disney’s revamp of the classic radio and television series, supposedly beating out better-known stars like George Clooney and Ryan Gosling for the role. He joins Johnny Depp, who has long been cast as Tonto, the Ranger’s Native American sidekick.
With this 24-year-old’s dashing good looks and deep throaty voice, Armie will surely play the gunslinging hero with due justice. At the very least, I’m fairly confident he’ll look like pure schmex in the cowboy-boots-and-nothing-else photo shoot that Cosmo MUST have in mind already.
But if you ever got the racist willies watching Tonto in the 1940s show, don’t fret! The film won’t be a straight-up regurgitation of the original. Depp thankfully plans to “take some of the ugliness thrown on the Native Americans–not only in The Lone Ranger, but the way Indians were tried throughout history of cinema–and turn it on its head.”
Whew!
