James Franco is one of the hottest names in Hollywood right now, so it makes sense that he would ditch his longtime girlfriend in order to man whore it up. But apparently, that’s not what happened. Ahna and James did break up, but she ended their five-year relationship…because he loves school too much. Seriously.

“It’s over,” James confesses in the August issue of Playboy. “We’d been living together in LA and then I came to New York to go to school for two years. Then I signed up for more school. I think that was it for her.”

As far as excuses for Hollywood break-ups go, “She didn’t wanna wait for me to get my 18th post-graduate degree” is definitely a new one. James is famously passionate about his education, and has taken classes at Yale, Columbia and NYU, which he somehow balanced with a busy acting career. Makes sense that he wouldn’t have much time for a girlfriend. Hell, did anyone even know he had a girlfriend?!
