Mitch Winehouse: Amy Was "The Happiest She Has Been For Years"
Amy Winehouse's grieving father can take some solace in knowing that Amy was doing well at the time that she had passed away. Mitch said that "Knowing she wasn't depressed, knowing she passed away, knowing she passed away happy – it makes us all feel better. She was the happiest she has been for years."
Mitch says that Amy was "in good spirits" and was "looking forward" to a future with boyfriend Reg Traviss.
Mitch revealed that Amy had "overcome drug dependency" three years ago. She had even gone three weeks without drinking and was in the midst of a "fantastic recovery" when she passed.
"We spoke three times a day, at least," he says.
The night the soulful singer died, he says, she showed no sign of depression. "She was in her room, playing drums and singing. As it was late, her security guard said to keep it quiet, and she did."
Mitch says he's setting up the Amy Winehouse Foundation to help those struggling with substance abuse.
"Amy was the greatest daughter, family member and friend you could ever have," he says.
