Ronnie Ortiz-Magro: Domestic Violence Against Sammi Giancola is Socially Acceptable?

On season 1 of Jersey Shore, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro shoved his girlfriend Sammi Giancola out the way so that he could hit another dude in the face. On season 3 of Jersey Shore, Ronnie claimed he was "going to f*ck [Mike Sorrentino] up" after Sammi told Ronnie something that Mike had said.

Sammi, who instigated the fight, stood in between both man-children, trying to prevent them from throwing blows by keeping 'em physically separated. Ronnie wasn't having it, so he shoved Sammi out the way before body slamming Mike. Sammi then quickly began bawling. She was clearly crying because she was shoved. It's not like Sam was fearful that Mike could actually leave a scratch mark on her beefed up idiot boyfriend.

Now I'm all for Sammi Giancola getting shoved out the way or kicked in the face or punched in the breast (we loathe this b!tch), but the worst girlfriend in reality TV history shouldn't be physically attacked by someone with testicles.

Several bloggers went into detail about what led to the Situation vs. The Wall smackdown, and what happened before MTV security pulled Michael off of Ronald, but few noted that when Ronnie's mad, he shoves his woman out the way to hit his target. Did domestic violence become socially acceptable because the victim is a psycho C U Next Tuesday? When Sammi punched Ronnie in the jaw last season, it was highlighted throughout recaps and MTV reporters questioned her about it on more than one occasion. When Ron shoves Sammi out the way, his violence doesn't even become a footnote.

MTV has aired domestic violence on season after season of Teen Mom, and the network has aired physical fights on every season of Jersey Shore. If Amber Portwood of Teen Mom lost custody of her child and many criticized her for hitting her baby daddy (who is twice her size), why aren't more people saying that Ronnie shouldn't be putting his hands on Sammi?

I see both sides. It shouldn't be okay for him to shove her no matter what, but she also shouldn't be so stupid as to get in between two guys fighting (although I'm hardly shocked that she is, in fact, THAT stupid). I think the difference between this and the other domestic violence examples is that she wasn't the target of his anger, she was just in the way. Does that make it okay? No, but I think that's part of what makes the difference here. If they were having a fight between the two of them and he shoved her then, I bet you'd see a different reaction from MTV and the media.

With MTV security a few feet away, I doubt Sammi thought Ronnie was going to kill Mike, especially considering that their fight sucked!

Sammi cried the first time Ronnie pushed her, and she cried the second time he shoved her.
