Lindsay Lohan Compares Herself to Marilyn Monroe, Is an Idiot
As part of her effort to show us that she's, like, a totally deep artist, you guys, Lindsay Lohan has written an essay about the late actress Marilyn Monroe, who she apparently looks up to, along with every other under-30 actress in Hollywood. But this is Lindsay Lohan we're talking about so she wasn't able to just say she looks up to Marilyn and leave it at that. No, Linds believes that she and Marilyn are kindred spirits, because...I don't know, they're both blonde and like drugs?
"People in their mind have created who I am and act as if there is no real person inside of me.," Lindsay writes. "Just like Marilyn, who created the blond sex goddess on camera…. Marilyn never wanted to be a celebrity. Neither do I." She goes on to talk about what great friends she was with Heath Ledger and to complain about how Marilyn is remembered for her "great films," but that's not possible for poor Lindsay, because no one's making great films anymore. Oh, and Lindsay doesn't want to be a celebrity? Hilarious!
I wanna corner this chick at a party and say, "Quick! Name three Marilyn Monroe movies!" I'll never know who gave every 20-something actress and wannabe actress the idea that Marilyn Monroe is somebody to look up to, but fortunately some, like Megan Fox, are starting to come to their senses. Sure, Marilyn starred in come classic films, she's an iconic figure, etc., but she was also a profoundly effed-up human being who took her own life at what should have been the height of her career.
Lindsay Lohan comparing herself to Marilyn Monroe is stupid for a number of reasons. Linds won't be remembered in 50 years the way Marilyn is, not because there are no good movies to star in, but because she self-destructed before anyone got to see if she had any real talent. Marilyn had the sense to prove herself before she threw it all away. Plus, if Lindsay is really trying to rehabilitate her image, she should be expressing her admiration for Audrey Hepburn or Meryl Streep - women who are famous for their careers, not their personal lives. All she's doing with this essay is inviting further comparison to a woman who had the exact type of tragic end that everyone fears for Lindsay.
