Yesterday was Wilmer Valderrama’s birthday, and Demi Lovato took the opportunity to send him some public well wishes via Twitter. Nothing wrong with exes remaining friends, and given Demi’s recent troubles, it’s encouraging to see her having a healthy interaction with the man who seemed to have caused many of her emotional issues. There’s only one problem – based on their exchange, it seems the effed up on-again, off-again relationship between this mismatched pair is still going strong.

Yes, Demi called “Willy” an “incredible man” and he referred to her as “my angel.” Doesn’t sound like a couple that recently called it quits to me. This is a far cry from Demi’s tweets from a few weeks ago, in which she encouraged her female followers to seek independence and “never need a man.”

With rumors that she’s been in and out of rehab in recent months for emotional and addiction issues, I’d normally consider it good news that Demi has someone to lean on, but Wilmer has developed a reputation as the most predatory player in Hollywood, a man who’s known for dating troubled teen starlets and dumping them before they hit the big 2-0. Given that Wilmer turned 32 yesterday, hopefully the dude has matured a bit and realized that his actions could contribute to turning Demi into the next Lindsay.
