Lady Gaga has pretty much been on tour since she became famous, so the girl knows cities you and I have only read about like the back of her hand. But now it seems Gaga’s familiarity with Bangkok (and its counterfeit products) has enraged her fans in Thailand.
The singer landed in Bangkok this week and tweeted shortly after, “I wanna get lost in a lady market and buy a fake Rolex.” It’s not certain what she meant by “lady market” (though some have suggested it was reference to the city’s notorious sex trade), but the fake Rolex remark has angered fans who don’t want their country to be known as a place for Americans to buy knock-off goods.
“We are more civilized than you think,” tweeted Thai DJ Surahit Siamwalla. “She came to our home, but instead of admiring us she insulted us.” Siamwalla is one of many Bangkok residents who says he now plans to boycott Gaga’s upcoming concert.
Between this mess and Gaga’s recent problems in Indonesia, it’s beginning to look like Gaga should give the non-stop touring a rest for a while.
