James Holmes, 24, was smart enough to qualify for his university’s neuroscience PhD program, he orchestrated a mass murder at a movie theater and he made sure there were enough explosives in his bedroom to kill off anyone who entered it.

Twelve people were shot to death on Friday and dozens more were injured. Holmes is currently in jail and he had his very first court appearance today. He wants people to believe that he’s crazy, telling the police “I’m the Joker” and ‘acting crazy’ in court today. I didn’t watch James’ video, but I think that he’s pure evil and not certifiably insane.

TMZ reports that James appeared sedated and opened his eyes widely. He also dozed off and began to “blink wildly.”

He didn’t say a word and he’s forbidden from contacting any of the victims or their families.
