Michael Phelps landed in 8th place at the 400 individual medley heat race and he ended up in 4th place tonight. Ryan Lochte won a gold medal and Phelps didn't even pick up a bronze. Lochte wasn't lying when he said "This is my year!"

After his big win, Ryan Tweeted: "Thanks to my fans. This gold was for Lochte Nation!! That's what happens when Lochte Nation Unites!"
Phelps is taking his loss pretty hard, saying:
"It was just a crappy race. I felt fine the first 200, then I don't know. They just swam a better race than me, a smarter race than me, and were better prepared than me. That's why they're on the medal stand."
ESPN says that Lochte "climbed out of the pool with a big smile, waving to the crowd."
Phelps' coach said: "I'm surprised, and not pleasantly. I expected he'd be in the 4:06 range."
Michael Phelps said that losing the race is "frustrating, that's all I can say. It's pretty upsetting." He says he hopes to finish "a lot better" than how he started.
It was pretty obvious from the trials and the heat that Lochte had this race on lock. Congrats to our Because He's Hot guy.
