Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse is one of England's best exports. Amy's voice is strong, powerful, raspy and soulful. Amy Winehouse was an overnight success worldwide, and then she got married to a drug addict and stopped making music.

Amy Winehouse: 'Back To Black' Dress Sells for Over $67,000

Amy Winehouse continues to touch people through her music and it’s become increasingly clear that her legacy won’t be disappearing any time soon. The dress that the singer wore on the cover of her Back To Black album has sold at auction, with all the proceeds going to the foundation established in her honor.

Chilean fashion museum Museo de la Moda scooped up the polka dot chiffon dress for £43,200, or over $67,000. Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse, attended the auction and was visibly shocked at the amount of the winning bid.

Though the Winehouse family doesn’t know the exact cause this money will go towards, Mitch says, “Amy would be so proud that her name is making a difference to young lives and especially that her music is directly making life better for vulnerable young people.”

Our Day Will Come: New Amy Winehouse Single Released

Often when a musical artist dies at the height of their career, some previously unreleased tracks are "discovered" and released in a last-ditch effort to cash in on a tragedy. Fortunately, in the case of Amy Winehouse, the singer actually was hard at work on a new album at the time of her passing, so the songs she left behind serve as a powerful reminder of her ability, as well as a sad glimpse of where her incredible talent would have taken her.

Amy's estate will release Lioness: Hidden Treasures on December 5th, and if the debut single from the album is any indication, it may become one of the hot holiday presents of the season. The song - recorded in 2002, but never released for unspecified reasons - is vintage Winehouse. It's got the old-school 60s girl group sound that she helped to revive, and her powerful, unmistakable voice is on full display. Check it out above for a reminder of what a one-of-a-kind talent Amy truly was.

New Amy Winehouse Album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, to be Released

Amy Winehouse had recorded new music before her sudden passing last summer, and now fans will have the opportunity to hear it. Island Records is releasing Lioness: Hidden Treasures, a 12-track album that will be sold on December 5.

Amy's loving father reportedly cried when he listened to the songs. Mitch said. "It wasn't until I sat down with the rest of the family and listened to this album that I fully appreciated the breadth of Amy's talent." He continued,  "From jazz standards to hip-hop songs, it really took my breath away. I never realized what a true genius she was."

Amy's second album, Back to Black, dropped in 2006. Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi produced the new tracks. A donation from the sale of each album will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

Amy Winehouse Drank Herself To Death

Amy Winehouse's parents walked into the Coroners Court this morning for the final verdict of what exactly caused Amy's death. According to coroner Suzanne Greenaway, who described the situation as "Death by Misadventure," Amy drank herself to death.

At the time of Amy's death, she had more than 4x the legal limit of alcohol in her system. Amy was trying to kick the bad habits and had been clean pretty much through the month of July, but went on a bender beginning July 20, and was found dead in her home on July 23. Police recovered two large bottles of vodka, along with one small bottle of vodka, after her death.

Amy's family released a statement saying, "It is some relief to finally find out what happened to Amy. We understand there was alcohol in her system when she passed away, it is likely a build up of alcohol in her system over a number of days. The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time."

It's a great pain to all of her fans including myself who wanted Amy to shake her demons and continue making amazing music. She was able to kick the heroin and crack addictions, but kicking the sauce was just too much for her to handle.

Amy Winehouse: Final Song Recording 'Body And Soul' Released

On what would have been Amy Winehouse's 28th birthday, her family has released the final song Amy recorded named "Body and Soul". All proceeds from the song will benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

Amy Winehouse Healthy

Amy looks gorgeous and healthy in the video which was recorded earlier this year with one of Amy's icons, Tony Bennett. If there's any final way to see Amy, it's like this... Looking better than ever. She's smiling, and at one point kissing her necklace and pointing to the sky.

Amy sang alongside Tony for his upcoming album Duets II which also features artists such as Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Willie Nelson, John Mayer and many more.

Amy Winehouse: Father Mitch Blames Blake Fielder-Civil For Her Death

A lot finger-pointing has taken place in the wake of Amy Winehouse's unexpected death in July. Much of the blame has been placed on the people in Amy's life who enabled and sometimes even encouraged her behavior. And many, including Amy's father Mitch, believe the worst such offender was her junkie ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.

Mitch spoke to Anderson Cooper recently and while he claimed that he doesn't hold Fielder-Civil personally responsible for Amy's death, he went on to say, "I blame her for a lot of things. He started her on the road to hard drugs." So while he may not officially blame the man for his daughter's tragic passing, he clearly believed that Blake, who's currently serving time for burglary, played a big part in Amy's downfall.

Mitch still believes that Amy's death was caused by a seizure that resulted from her attempts to sober up. He plans to launch the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity to benefit people struggling with addiction in a ceremony tomorrow.

Amy Winehouse: 'Back to Black' Now UK's Best Selling Album of the Century

Like we’ve said before, Amy Winehouse may be gone, but her musical legacy will live on for a very long time. Bolstered by an uptick in album sales following her death, Amy has managed to beat a record previously held by James Blunt--her second and last album, Back To Black, is now Britain’s best-selling album of the 21st century. When the list was last compiled, Back To Black was third on the list.

Winehouse’s 2006 release has now sold 3,259,100 copies according to figures compiled by the Official Chart Company. Blunt’s album Back To Bedlam, released in 2005, has sold a total of 3,241,118.

Though it’s a bittersweet celebration because she isn’t around to enjoy the honor, it’s a good credit to her name nonetheless. I still can’t believe that warbly Blunt beat her out in the first place, but I’m glad Amy could achieve this. Back To Black was a beautiful album. I just wish there could have been more.

Amy Winehouse Toxicology Results: Drug-Free At Time of Death

The long-awaited results of Amy Winehouse's post-mortem toxicology test are in, and the findings are bound to shock millions. The test shows that the troubled singer was not on drugs at the time of her unexpected death.

Amy had been drinking, however, so the theory that she was done in by alcohol withdrawal no longer holds up. Her family released the following statement:

"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities confirm there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death. Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."

So far, there's no word on how much Amy had been drinking. It could be that she died from alcohol poisoning, or that her years of hard drug use simply caught up with her, even though she was no longer using. However, it's still possible that her death had nothing to do with her dangerous lifestyle, which would make her passing all the more tragic. Although, frankly, that possibility seems unlikely.

Further results are due to be released in October.

Amy Winehouse Home Burglarized, Lyrics For Third Album May Be Missing

Someone has stolen personal belongings from Amy Winehouse's home, and her father Mitch Winehouse is p!ssed. Some of the items that may be missing are one of Amy's favorite guitars, personal letters, and lyrics for unreleased material, but only two lyric books have been reported to police.

Amy Winehouse Angry

Poppa Mitch is currently taking a vacation but plans to find the culprit as soon as he returns to London. A source said the family is shocked and for someone to stoop this low, well, the family just can't get their heads around it.

"Mitch is livid. The family, record label and management are months away from deciding what to do with any unreleased music. For that to be taken out of their hands is horrible."

Only around 20 people including Amy's family, friends, security and police had access to Amy's home since she died, so who is the thief? Could it be the security guard holding the candlestick in the kitchen? Seriously, this is like a game of clue.

It's sad for someone to take advantage of her personal stuff now that she's gone, and if they're scandalous enough to steal from a dead person, I would bet they're ruthless enough to try and make a few bucks off of it.

Amy Winehouse: London Home To Be Foundation Headquarters

Amy Winehouse's loving family continues to do all that they can to keep her memory alive. Amy's father Mitch Winehouse handed out her clothes to fans who waited outside her London flat; and today it has been announced that Amy's house will be the headquarters for the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity designed to help needy children.

The 10-room, $4 million house in Camden, North London will house the organization, whose official mission statement is set to be announced Sept. 14, which would have been Winehouse's 28th birthday.

Mitch Winehouse said: "The foundation is going to help thousands of people. That is Amy's legacy."

Partial funding for the organization will come from Winehouse's last recording, a duet called "Body and Soul" that she recorded with Tony Bennett. Amy's final song will appear on Tony's upcoming album, Duets II.
