Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in what authorities say is a possible drug-related death, the NYPD said. He was 28. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told The Associated Press that Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment that is believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there, and found him dead at 3:26 p.m, Browne said.

The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain," where he met his wife, actress Michelle Williams, in 2005. Ledger and Williams had lived in Brooklyn and had a daughter, Matilda, until they split up last year. Ledger's roles include the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in "Monster's Ball" and had starring roles in "A Knight's Tale" and "The Patriot." He was to appear as the Joker this year in "The Dark Night," a sequel to 2005's "Batman Begins."

So sad. I was a big fan of Heath and his work. R.I.P Heath.

Kate Hudson has moved on to an actual movie star. Hudson, having dumped funnyman Shephard, was linked to Dane Cook, but Thursday night she only had eyes for Heath Ledger.

Spies at Beatrice Inn said they spent their evening at the trendy watering hole "kissing and making out." A rep for Hudson said, "This is absolutely untrue. They ran into each other and chatted briefly, but that was the extent of it." But our spy insists on the liplock.

It's been only a month since Heath Ledger split from Michelle Williams, and he's not wasting any time! The actor, 28, was spotted "making out" with supermodel Helena Christensen during dinner on September 11 at NYC eatery Wakiya.

Later that night, they arrived together at the premiere of Eastern Promises (starring another Ledger ex, Naomi Watts, 38). "They started holding hands. And as the night wore on, they get cozier." "She was following him around â€" a total cougar," adds the observer of Christensen, 38.

The pair have been friendly since at least last November, when Us spotted them chatting at the NYC premiere of his flick Candy, where she waited for him to put on his coat before they walked out together!

In an interview with Newsweek magazine, Heath Ledger once again dodged questions about whether he and his baby mama Michelle Williams tied the knot, but his responses lean towards a positive. An excerpt:

Are the reports true that you and Michelle Williams got married?
"We try not to talk about it, to keep it our own kind of thing. It's obviously very sacred. People write stories regardless. The stories haven't necessarily been bad. So we're letting people run with their assumptions."

It's not like people won't eventually find out.
"That's right."

And yet, how will we ever know for sure if you never say anything?
"They take photos of us wearing our wedding rings."

I've seen those photos. So I take it that you are married.
"You can write whatever you wish."

Why don't you just make the announcement now and get it over with?
"We're not ones to announce."

I find all their secrecy very childish and counterproductive.

Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams' relationship is in trouble, it has been reported.

The 'Brokeback Mountain' star spent Valentine's Day surrounded by women at Los Angeles nightclub Teddy's while Michelle was in New York attending fashion week.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "They had a huge fight, and they're not speaking." Michelle reportedly snapped at a reporter who asked her to comment on her relationship during New York fashion week.

Despite the reported problems, the couple attended the Independent Spirit Awards and the Oscars together.

Heath, 27, and Michelle, 26, have a 16-month-old daughter, Matilda Rose. In January, the couple fuelled rumors they had secretly wed after they were seen wearing rings on their wedding fingers.

Last November, they collected a marriage license in Brooklyn, where they own a town house in Cobble Hill.
