Timberlake had joined director Martin Scorsese and about eight other people at a table inside the hotel's exclusive bar. Timberlake, in a striped coat, chatted briefly with Scorsese (who directed Diaz in Gangs of New York) and others at the table.
Then, at about 1 a.m., Diaz arrived. "Cameron never joined their table," says the observer. "She just showed up and Justin got up and started talking to her. They were being very discreet.
"They weren't kissing or holding hands or anything, but they were being very friendly," the observer adds.
The pair, who broke up last month after nearly four years together, then walked out the front door together a half-hour later. Says the onlooker:
"When I first saw this girl, I thought, 'That's not Scarlett Johansson or Jessica Biel.' Then it hit me â" it was Cameron! She was low-key, her hair was dark and pulled back."

Justin Timberlake has slammed reports he was taking a jab at ex-girlfriend Britney Spears at the Brit Awards when he ordered the audience to "stop drinking."
The 26-year-old was named Best International Solo Artist at the awards ceremony on Wednesday and accepted his prize via satellite.
During his acceptance speech he jokingly told the crowd, "Stop drinking! You know who you are. I'm speaking to you. You are going to get sloppy!"
But the star's representative insists he wasn't referring to his hard-partying ex-girlfriend, telling American publication Us Weekly, "He was addressing the audience at the Brit Awards - not anyone in particular!"
I don't really believe he wasn't talking about Britney. Either way, JT doesn't really give a monkey's poop 'bout Brit Brit no mo'.

Robyn did an amazing job!!! Talk about pressure. And "My Love" is a difficult song to sing. It's not the best song to showcase your voice or your range. Robyn did the damn thang like a pro.

Pop superstar, actor and clothing designer Justin Timberlake can add TV mogul to his impressive resume after signing a new partnership deal with US communication giant Verizon to launch JT TV.
The new network will feature movies, music and fashion programming.
The merger was announced by the singer's manager Johnny Wright at Timberlake's pre-Grammy Hollywood party on Friday night (09FEB07). Full details are still to come.

Last night Scarlett went out to the CAA party at Miami hot spot Mokai where she was spotted partying with Justin Timberlake's best friend Trace Ayala and his crew.
