Kanye West Outsells 50 Cent

Reports are surfacing that Kanye West has outsold 50 Cent by 200,000 copies.

Hahahaha!!!! I bought 2 copies of Kanye's Graduation yesterday, I'm so glad so many fans turned out to support him. Kanye's sales are expected to be around 700,000.

Yahoo music features some of the most talented writers, check out a Kanye vs. 50 review. I'm abbreviating it, but you can read the whole review here. Btw, I haven't listen to Kanye yet, but I've heard it's hot.

50 Cent, "Curtis" (Interscope) and Kanye West, "Graduation" (Def Jam)

If the contest was being judged solely on artistic vision rather than Soundscan tallies, however, West could claim a landslide victory. "Graduation" blends a different set of musical influences than West's past two efforts, 2004's "The College Dropout" and 2005's "Late Registration." Drawing from Daft Punk and Coldplay to loping, back-porch soul and '80s-era electro-disco rhythms, "Graduation" still sounds like a logical step forward. Yet "Curtis" sounds like Fiddy is standing in place, with the familiar bruising basslines and slick, synth-heavy productions that have transformed the former drug dealer into one of the top-selling recording artists of any genre.

To wit, on the radio-ready track "Good Life," featuring the digitally enhanced singing of T-Pain, West takes some of his adversary's own advice and paraphrases a line from Fiddy's 2003 smash "In Da Club": "50 told me go head switch your style up/ And if they hate, then let 'em hate and watch the money pile up."

The so-called "hate" West has received for his award-show outbursts, preppy fashion choices and unfiltered honesty results in a lot of explaining on his new album. On the haunting "Can't Tell Me Nothing," West alludes to his infamous "Bush hates black people" post-Hurricane Katrina comment: "I'm just saying how I feel man/ I ain't one of the Cosbys, I ain't go to Hillman," before speaking about himself facetiously, "I guess the money should've changed him/ I guess I should've forgot where I came from."

By disc's end, on the captivating "Big Brother," West even dares bite the hand the feeds him, detailing the mild beef but ultimate reverence he has for his label boss Jay-Z.

Neither self-deprecation nor humility is part of Fiddy's equation. He's more concerned about squashing rivals, real and imagined ("My Gun Go Off," "I Still Kill"), highlighting his street pedigree and reminding us of his bottomless wealth.

The disc is mostly standard-issue gangsta talk. On the menacing funk of "Fully Loaded Clip," Fiddy takes aim at rap/R&B elite who've gone soft, snickering: "When Jay and Beyonce was um-um kissing/ I was cooking 1,000 grams in my kitchen/ When Nas was telling Kelis, "I love you, boo"/ I was shining my nine, you know how I do."

And when Fiddy enlists Justin Timberlake and Timbaland for "Ayo Technology," Robin Thicke on "Follow My Lead" and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger on "Fire," it feels like a rapper in a rut desperate to maintain his pop stranglehold. The songs aren't tough listens by any means, but Fiddy is going the easy route to appeal to the masses.

Kanye West Goes Crazy

Backstage at the MTV Awards in Las Vegas, Kanye reacts to not picking up an MTV award. I love this video. Relax muthafucka!

UPDATE: MTV has issued a statement, begging Kanye to work with them again.

"MTV has a long and collaborative relationship with Kanye and we hope and look forward to continuing that meaningful relationship."

"Kanye West is a visionary performer and he didn't let his fans down at this year's VMA's. From his incredible renditions of "Stronger" and "The Good Life," to the spectacular aerial shots from his multi-level suite which made for one of the grandest visuals of the night, the audience feedback on MTV.com has been overwhelming. In fact, he is the only artist to have three performances ranked in the top 15 on MTV.com."

I Kind Of Agree With Kanye West, MTV Did Exploit Him and Britney Spears

Kanye West, never known for holding his tongue, is railing against MTV after leaving empty-handed from Sunday's Video Music Awards, charging that the network misled him â€" and also exploited Britney Spears.

Amber Rose happy to use Kanye West

"They exploited Britney in helping to end her career. When Britney was opening [the VMA telecast], near the end, I felt so bad for her. I said, 'Man, it's a dirty game. This game will chew you up and spit you out.'"

The rapper says he's already cancelled planned appearances on TRL to promote his new album Graduation. Specifically, West takes issue with the way performances were set up â€" that he should have performed on the main stage and not from a private suite where many artists performed for small groups of fans throughout the telecast.

"I wasn't mad that I just didn't win any awards. For me, [MTV] made it seem like performing on the main stage was a bad thing, and the suites were just so great. It was my dream when I made 'Stronger' to open up the VMAs with a real power performance.

"And I just feel like I got betrayed by them," the rapper continues. "I feel like they tried to make it seem like I was so into everything that was going on in the show."

Another sticking point: Pamela Anderson's racy introduction on the telecast.
(Anderson appeared in a music video for West's single "Touch the Sky.") Before West performed "Good Life" from his suite, the former Baywatch star told viewers, "One of the best times I've ever had was making out with the next performer in the middle of the desert. I think I had my tongue so far down his throat I could taste his fiancée â€" and I might need a repeat performance later tonight."

"I'm engaged, and I feel like it's disrespectful to my relationship," West says of Anderson's remarks, which he claims the network assured him would not happen.

When JJ pointed out that West was being pretty blunt by speaking out against MTV, the rapper responded in a characteristically unapologetic fashion: "I have a connection in the fans' heart that the press can't stop."

Kanye should cool it a bit with trying to play the race card, saying can't MTV give a black man a chance?, but he's right. MTV does exploit people. Look at how they glorified Miss South Carolina. We were all on our way to forgetting about that airhead, but they gave her attention for being mentally challenged? MTV is full of shit! They should have had a backup for changing Britney's entire routine at the last minute.

However, Kanye should use the network just like they use him. He shouldn't cancel his promotion appearances, that could hurt his sales more than it hurts MTV. He should know that everyone in the entertainment business exploits and uses everyone else. It's cut throat. I hope he calms the eff down.

An Open Letter To Kanye West

Kanye West threw a tantrum Sunday night in front of media and crew backstage as the MTV show was ending.

Kanye West Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Photo

West, waiting for an elevator in a crowded hallway, began yelling about losing all five categories for which he was nominated.

"That's two years in a row, man ... give a black man a chance," West said, stomping around his entourage and directing his comments at a reporter. "I'm trying hard man, I have the ... number one record, man."

West said he never will return to MTV.

The rapper was nomination for five awards, including male artist of the year. This is the latest in a series of awards show outburst for West. Last year, he crashed the stage at the MTV Europe Awards after not winning for best video.

mtv

Dear Kanye,

I'm concerned. You seem to get very upset when you don't win awards. First of all, you can get as upset as you wanna, please just don't do it in front of the cameras, it detracts from your hawtness.

Secondly, you are extremely talented. You recently told some magazine you're the "fucking Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison" of our time. You're right. You're the real deal, but your image is blown. You're not conceited, you're insecure and you yearn to be validated with awards.

You have millions of fans who adore you and industry people who highly respect and praise your talent. Your clothing line's about to drop, you're doing big things. Honestly, an MTV award is nearly at the bottom of the barrel and has as much credibility as Kevin Federline does street cred. Baby, let it go. Please continue to show up to MTV award shows. For now, just throw on a Speedo and mud wrestle with 50 Cent. Without a doubt, it will help you release some anger, and we'll forgive you for your tantrums.

Thanks!

Kanye West & 50 Cent Battle It Out Tuesday

BET is treating the Tuesday-evening event like a top heavyweight fight, even borrowing Stuart Scott from ESPN to deliver a statistical breakdown of the two rappers. Both are set to perform, but whether they will engage in a rap battle remains to be seen. While the two have engaged in plenty of trash-talking in recent weeks, Stephen Hill, an executive vice president at BET, says this clash of hip-hop hotshots isn't about bad blood.

Kanye West Rapping

"I don't think it's a battle, I think it's a lot of fun. I think Kanye will tell you he moved his date to 50's date to draw this type of attention, to create this marketing opportunity," he said. "We're gonna have fun on Sept. 11, the only place they are going to be together."

What's the big deal? Kanye's gonna blow 50's ass out of the water in album sales. I'm gonna buy Kanye's album to help him do it. :)

Quote Me Of The Day: 50 Cent

"Its not possible for Kanye to beat me, I don't know why I said that. Its like the teddy bear vs. the gorilla. Def Jam [West's label] is going to buy about 200,000 of Kanye's records. Kanye sucks, I'm going to be honest, he sounds like a robot, he has a robot record."

Amber Rose sideshot

Kanye doesn't wanna have shit to do with this mess. It's a shame 50's mother was killed when he was 8 years old. It's obvious that the "man" still needs lots of training. Put out music for the fans and because you love it, not the feud!

I Really Can't Stand This Ugly Jerk, 50 Cent

THE fake feud between Kanye West and 50 Cent is over. The two were chest thumping about outselling each other when they release albums next month. But the bogus bombast ended over vodka shots Wednesday night at 40/40 Club with Jay-Z, Sean Combs and T.I. The hip-hop summit meeting had fans going crazy as the five rappers strolled like the Rat Pack through the club.

Amber Rose clothes, ugly fashion statement

DAMN HIM! 50 is saying he won't retire if Kanye outsells him. I'm still gonna cop a few Kanye records. 50 Cent sucks at being an attention whore.

Tellin' It Like It Is

Kanye told XXL magazine,"My biggest inspiration and biggest competition is Justin Timberlake. He's the only other person that gets an across-the-board response and respect level - black radio, white radio. If Justin hadn't come out and killed the game, I can't say that my album, singles and videos would be on the same level that they're on."

"We push each other. I look at me and Justin like Prince and Michael Jackson in their day."

Kanye West naked picture

"I feel like my lyrics are, if not THE, then equal to, the realest lyrics out. I connected with so many people without talkin' about guns and drugs. … It's harder to go to work 365 days than shoot a person in one day."

"… When people come up to you like, ‘That was really good,' you're supposed to play stupid, like, ‘Wow, you really think so?' Because people can't really handle the truth. But I am the truth. I'd rather be hated for what I am than loved for what I'm not."

I agree with this muthatrucka, and not just 'cause I would bang his brains out, but, he's real. Kanye and JT do run the game right now and it's so true, people really are supposed to act innocent and dumb when others compliment them.

You gotta hand it to Kanye for being one damn interesting interviewee. And his songs be off the chainizzle. Did I just make up a word? Now that's a first.

Kanye West Says 50 Cent Is Intimidating

OMG, I think Kanye looks so fuckable in this video, it's ridiculous!!! I think I'm startin' to develop a lil crush. Kanye was interviewed on a London show and he's just really cute in here, he also begs 50 not to quit the music business after he outsells him on September 11th. Shit, I may have to cop more than one copy of Kanye's album. Go away, 50! This video's under 2 minutes. I was entertained. Enjoy.

Up To Speed: 50 Cent Thinks He's Better Than Kanye West

Egotistical and scary faced "rapper" 50 Cent says he will quit making records if Kanye West outsells him on September 11th. Both chart toppers share the same release date and the egotistical 50 has put his fans to the challenge.

Kanye West fights with paparazzi

50 said,

"If Kanye West sells more records on September 11, I'll no longer write music. I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out any more solo albums,"

"And I bet this, When Kanye West's sales come in, he's gonna have a 70 percent decrease cause Def Jam is gonna buy records. So watch the first week and then watch the second week. Watch his ass drop off the planet. We keep our angles covered before we make a decent bet."

I have to buy Kanye's album on September 11th because 50 Cent is everything that's wrong with rap music. He can't flow, he's uncreative, glorifies violence, degrades women, and he's just so harsh on the eyes. If 50 had some talent, I could support him. Until then, not so much.
