It's officially over: Russell Brand and Katy Perry terminated their 14 month marriage yesterday by signing court papers that basically stipulated they'd both leave the marriage the same as they came into it. The split seems to be completely mutual and amicable which has led many to wonder why Katy signed her court documents with a smiley face.

Putting a happy little emoticon on your divorce decree could seem like a serious "eff you" to your ex, but there's no reason to assume that's the case here. As we found out yesterday, Russell did the stand-up thing by declining to pursue half of Katy's massive fortune, and there's been no talk of cheating or abuse. My guess is, the smiley face is just force of habit for the perpetually bubbly Katy.

The settlement was reached in record time for a Hollywood divorce. The couple agreed to evenly divide all property that they acquired together during the marriage. There are no kids involved, of course, though Katy and Russell did adopt a cat, Krusty, who's fate remains undetermined. I hope they don't do the shared custody, every other weekend thing. That can seriously mess a cat up.

We're not accustomed to seeing mature behavior in Hollywood, or in divorces, and especially not in Hollywood divorces, but it looks like Russell Brand has decided to buck the trend. According to reports, Russell has elected to waive his community property rights, thus passing up the opportunity to score as much as half of ex-wife Katy Perry's estimated $44 million fortune.

A source tells TMZ, "This divorce is as amicable as it gets, and Russell was a mensch (Yiddish for a good person). He doesn't want Katy's money." Smart move. The money wouldn't be worth the long-term damage to Russell's career. It's hard to land movie roles when the American public thinks of you as that pervy Brit who took Katy Perry for everything she's worth.

Still, this move might contribute to the perception that Russell's sex addiction caused the split and he feels guilty about it. He's still doing the right thing, though. Spousal support and community property laws were designed so that housewives who never worked before wouldn't be left homeless by a divorce, not so that you could win the lottery by leaving the right person without a prenup.

Katy Perry is single and ready to get on someone else the mic! Katy made her very first public appearance since her split from Russell Brand last weekend in Vegas and the California Gurl continues to emerge from hiding as she is set to perform at a private pre-Super Bowl party on Saturday.

Katy will also perform at the Grammys in Los Angeles. In between gigs, Katy will also be honoring Paul McCartney at the MusicCares benefit on Feb. 10. Someone's busy! Two days later, the Grammys will be held in L.A.

Success is the best revenge and Katy was, and will continue to be, far more successful than her sex addict husband Rusty. Keep shining Katy.

Katy Perry’s been laying low ever since she and Russell Brand split, but it looks like the pop star is on the mend (and not drowning her sorrows in potato chips and Ben & Jerry’s). She made her first public appearance post-breakup at a GiveLove benefit in Las Vegas and doesn’t look like she’s been singing “Someone Like You” fifty billion times while sobbing into her mascara-stained pillow.

According to Us magazine, Katy looked “very bubbly and happy,” despite probably being halfway broken up inside.

At this point, I think it’s just great that she took some time to get herself together, and can now look smoking hot in the face of Russell’s wandering peen. And I actually think her new blue hair color looks great! Because when her hair doesn’t look like some sort of candy, then I get worried.

A source says that Katy and Russell communicate via phone or email only because she's "limiting" her interactions with him.

Perry performed a concert in Indonesia yesterday and she recently shot an Adidas ad in Santa Barbara, California. Katy's source says: "She doesn't want to look battered and have people for sorry for her. She's very strong and confident."

Us Weekly continues to stand by its claim that Katy Perry was blindsided by Russell Brand when he filed for divorce on Dec. 30. Now a source explains why Perry feels betrayed by her husband. Us magazine reports that "multiple sources confirm" that Russell dropped a bomb on Katy, despite public denials from a rep.

What's most hurtful to Katy is that Russell is planning to go in-depth about their 14-month marriage in an upcoming memoir. Sounds like something he would do!

"Katy is insulted and feels betrayed that Russell has treated her so poorly. She will never forgive him. Ever."

Katy is "in panic mode" regarding her ex's tell-all but she's keeping herself busy with projects, like shooting an Adidas commercial the other week. She's also putting in effort to "limit interactions" with her husband, another source says.

"He's being so atrocious that she feels like she never knew him."

It's always comforting when the last person you thought would be a douchebag turns out to be a nightmare. At least this breakup will make for one amazing album. For Katy's next record, think Adele meets Britney Spears meets Ke$ha!

You can definitely file this one under dumb rumor, but it's total randomness and the outside chance that it may be true make it worth reporting.

Katy and Tim are both into JC, but it seems impossible to believe that she'd move on this quickly, with someone who's the total opposite of Russell (Tim still claims to be a virgin). Plus, Tebow's got bigger things on his mind than Katy's D's. He faces the New England Patriots on Saturday night and all the prayer in the world is no match for Tom Brady's amazing mullet powers.

It was a good night for women who had bad years. Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, and Demi Lovato, all of whom recently went through very public break-ups, all took home trophies from last night's People's Choice Awards. Katy was the night's big winner with five awards, though she since she famously decided not to attend the ceremony, she really didn't "take home" anything.

Naturally, attention whore Kim was on hand to work the red carpet and accept her award for best "celebreality" star, which just highlights how meaningless these awards really are. Demi Lovato who went through an extremely difficult 2011, capped off by a recent split from boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, accepted the prize for favorite pop artist and performed a song that was, sadly, considered by many to be one of the show's worst moments.

American Idol, Harry Potter, and, of course, Lady Gaga also took home top honors. For those unaware, the People's Choice Awards winners are, in fact, chosen by the people so the results are usually fairly predictable. The ceremony essentially confirmed the theory that Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian were popular in 2011. Who knew?!

Just weeks before filing for divorce from Katy Perry, Russell Brand posted a video online in which he "jokingly" removes his wedding ring for the camera.

The video features Russell talking about his upcoming college tour, which took place in late 2011. At one point, he mentions how much he looks forward to learning about American sororities. He then takes off the ring, saying that he's just gonna "put it someplace safe for the next week."

Odd that Russ would make a video like this less than a month before ending his marriage. Does the joke indicate that he wasn't aware his relationship was in trouble? Or is it just further evidence that Katy couldn't satisfy former sex addict Russell? Either way, we're guessing Brand got all his sorority questions answered and then some.
