I’m Glad Kelly Rowland Has Come Forward With This July 26th, 2007
Kelly admits that she once wanted to be white.
“It’s said that brown-skinned girls don’t sell magazines and that’s so sad,” the sexy songbird tells next month’s Essence.
“I remember wishing I was more fair-skinned, but Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mom, would say, ‘Don’t you know how beautiful you are?’ She made me come into my brown beauty. I didn’t get it, but now I do. I am chocolate and beautiful and loving it.”
Kelly is damn right, she is beautiful! There’s a lot more to this complicated issue, but it’s a shame that some people can’t get past mentioning the shade of one’s complexion, therefore, making skin color an issue. I’m glad she’s past all that now. You can say Kelly’s fug, but you’d be lying.
I saw her on Good Day LA a few weeks ago and the co-host (white guy named Steve) kept saying, “You are so pretty! You’re a really cute girl! I never knew. You’re a really cute girl up close!” It was hilarious, Kelly was slightly annoyed, but it was almost like he was tripping to discover that he could consider a dark-skinned woman to be gorgeous.
Either way, many people don’t have the courage to come out wit it and say they were ashamed of their ethnic features. Little black girls can look up to Kelly and think, WTF? Kelly’s gorgeous and so am I!

Kelly Rowland Collapsed During Performance In Nigeria July 16th, 2007
Kelly Rowland collapsed onstage early Sunday in Lagos, Nigeria, where she had been performing.Dehydration was the cause, her rep, Yvette Noel Schure, said in a statement.Rowland was taken to an undisclosed Lagos hospital for a check-up and was reported to be in “good condition.”
