Traditionally, American Idol winners receive their trophy from the previous season's champion. But on Wednesday's results show season nine winner Lee DeWyze was nowhere to be seen. Does Lee have some beef with new champ Scotty McCreery? Is he the world's biggest hater and can't stand letting someone else have the spotlight? Or was it all just a misunderstanding? Lee and Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe are offering different takes on the snub heard round the world.

Shortly after the show, Lythgoe Tweeted, "I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn't present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he's been on the show this season. I guess he was shy." That last sentence is passive-aggressive Brit speak for, "I guess he decided to be a dickhole." DeWyze, however, claims he wasn't even asked to participate in the season finale until the last minute and declined because it, "It was Scotty's moment."
True, McCreery shouldn't have been the focus of the night's events, but 1.) Lee shouldn't act like he was surprised when he got asked to go on stage, considering that's how they've done things every friggin' season, and 2.) It's generally not a good idea to turn down favor requests from the guy who gave you your big break, especially when that guy happens to be a billionaire mega-producer. Don't go burning bridges, Lee. You haven't exactly been setting the world on fire so your win last season. Here's hoping Scotty has better luck...and manners.
