In an interview for this Sunday's "60 Minutes," President Barack Obama says he will not release the death photos of Osama bin Laden. Justice may have been served, but we're not going to see it.
President Obama says he believes it's too much of a risk to release a picture of Osama's dead, lifeless body and would only fuel anger in the Middle East.
"The risks of release outweigh the benefits. Conspiracy theorists around the world will just claim the photos are doctored anyway, and there is a real risk that releasing the photos will only serve to inflame public opinion in the Middle East."
"Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaeda killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet. Osama bin Laden is not a trophy - he is dead and let's now focus on continuing the fight until Al Qaida has been eliminated."
Didn't al Qaeda kill some of our soldiers and post video of their bodies on the Internet a few years ago? I understand it shouldn't be an eye for an eye, but I think the photo should be released. If they don't want to show the pictures, maybe they could release a couple of still images of Osama during the raid, before he was killed. An extremely gruesome photo of Osama doesn't compare to what we watched unfold live in front of our eyes on 9/11.
