Shakir Stewart was 34 years old. His body was found in the bathroom of his home around 4 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to the Kenne Hospital with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and later pronounced dead.
The Oakland, California, native was known in the music industry for his hard work and an ear for talent. He was recently instrumental in fattening Def Jam’s roster with Southern rap staples Rick Ross and Young Jeezy.
Yesterday his fiancée, Michelle Rivers, released a joint statement with the rest of his family.
We would like to thank Shakir’s friends for the tremendous outpouring of love and support we have received during this difficult time,” the statement reads. “It has helped us to cope with our overwhelming grief and sadness. It is difficult to express or explain in words what led to the tragic occurrence on Saturday. Over the past several weeks, Shakir’s behavior was inconsistent with the man we all know and love. As much as we all tried to help him, Shakir was in deep pain and largely suffering in silence. Please remember Shakir for who he was … a wonderful father, partner, son and friend.”
Def Jam released a statement Saturday night in the aftermath of the tragedy.
“L.A. Reid and all of us at Island Def Jam Music Group are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and colleague Shakir Stewart,” the statement reads. “Shakir was an amazing man, in every sense of the word. A truly incredible friend and father who was an inspiration to not only our artists and employees, but to his family and the many people who had the privilege of counting him as a friend. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family at this very difficult time.”
Julian King was just so cute! You could tell that kid had lots of personality.
A private memorial service will be held early next week for the mother, brother and nephew of Jennifer Hudson, who were shot to death in Chicago.
The Hudson Funeral Home announced the service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Apostolic Church of God, according to the Chicago Tribune.
On Friday, a rep from the funeral home will announce if the family will hold a public service, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to a newly created Hudson-King Domestic Violence Protection Fund, care of Seaway Bank
and Trust, P.O. Box 19522, Chicago, IL, 60619.
William Balfour, the ex-husband of Hudson’s sister, Julia, is being held as a “person of interest” in the case. Chicago Police say the murders are “domestic-related.”
If you feel like your life sucks right now, just be thankful you’re not Jennifer Hudson.
Actress/singer Jennifer Hudson may be worried about her own safety. “Extra” received chilling new details on how Hudson in hiding and surrounding herself with security guards.
“I can’t disclose where Jennifer is staying — I can just tell you it’s a hotel. She has bodyguards… and the hotel she’s staying at has a great security team.”
According to recent reports, it’s believed that William had an accomplice at least drive him to his girlfriend’s house after the murders. Jennifer is probably fearful of not just William’s alleged accomplice, but anyone connected to that a-hole. I want the police to find the killers and get this whole mess wrapped up immediately. It’s pissing me off. I blame Jennifer’s sister Julia. There, I said it. That bitch is an irresponsible sister from hell!
Police have identified the body of a young boy discovered in an SUV in Chicago as Jennifer Hudson’s missing nephew Julian King, police Supt. Jody Weis said Monday.
The body was discovered “in the rear seat” of a white Chevrolet Suburban on Chicago’s West Side Monday morning, according to the Chicago Police Department. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to reports.
Immediately following the news of the body’s discovery, Hudson’s family members organized a church vigil. Several family members visited the medical examiner’s office Monday afternoon.
King, 7, went missing Friday after an unidentified assailant fatally shot Hudson’s mother Darnell and brother Jason. Over the weekend, Hudson offered $100,000 for the safe return of her nephew.
The Chicago Tribune reports that bullet casings were found in the boy’s room on Friday.
I am very interested to find out what happens to the person(s) who committed these crimes. This is all just so sad and senseless, makes ya wanna hug your family a lil tighter and tell them how much you care. Sending positive vibes the Hudsons’ way.
Police believe they have found the body of Jennifer Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew Julian King, who had been killed in an act of senseless violence.
The body of a young black boy was discovered Monday in an SUV as police continued their search for Jennifer Hudson’s missing 7-year-old nephew.
The white SUV was found abandoned on Chicago’s West Side, CNN reports. Police have not yet identified the body.
Julian King, 7, went missing Friday after an unidentified assailant fatally shot Hudson’s mother Darnell and brother Jason. Hudson offered $100,000 for the safe return of her nephew. When police issued an Amber Alert for Julian on Friday, they identified a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban with Illinois license plate X584859 as connected to the case.
Neighbors say the vehicle has been parked there since Saturday. Balfour was arrested Friday night.
The SUV has been towed with the body still inside the vehicle. The SUV is now at a police garage in Chicago.
May poor Julian R.I.P., the Hudson family stay strong, and may the killer(s) be sentenced to life in prison or death. So sad.
A suspect in the shooting deaths of Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother is in custody and is being questioned. The Oscar-winning actress’ nephew was not with the suspect.
Court records show Balfour pleaded guilty in 1999 to attempted murder and vehicular hijacking. He also was convicted in a 1998 case of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, the records show.
The victims were found unresponsive at about 2:45 p.m. inside a two-story white home near West 70th Street and South Yale Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood.
The home was owned by Hudson’s 57-year-old mother.
Although Balfour is now in custody, TMZ reports that he’s being uncooperative and refuses to give any information.
Jennifer’s brother Jason Hudson was found fatally shot in the bedroom. There was no sign of forced entry. The deaths appear to be the result of domestic abuse. Jennifer was in Florida at the time of the incident. She had been scheduled to appear at the Hollywood Awards on Monday for an ensemble cast honor for “The Secret Life of Bees.”
An Amber Alert has been issued for Jennifer’s missing nephew, Julian King.
King is black and has brown eyes and black hair. He is 5 feet tall and weighs 135 pounds.
Earlier in the day, police said they suspected that King was with Balfour in a white Chevy Suburban with license plate: X58-4859 which is registered to Jason Hudson. Now it’s confirmed that Jennifer’s nephew was not with the suspect.
Lost in all this is Jennifer’s sister Julia, mother of the missing 7-year-old. We’re told she works as a bus driver in Chicago. Her employer told us she worked her shift today. She hasn’t been seen since.
UPDATE 9:20 PM ET: A WBBM reporter is saying that neighbors have said a family member in the Hudson household apparently tried to steal a car a few weeks ago, an argument ensued, and he vowed revenge. A photo on Julia’s MySpace page (bottom) posted prior to today’s events alludes to some kind of dispute with William over a car.
And for those commenting that Jennifer’s mom should have lived in a nicer home and neighborhood, Us magazine reports:
Neighbor Angela Russell describes Darnell as a woman who had barbecues at her home.
“She was very kind and very social. She was extremely proud of her daughter but she didn’t let it go to her head. She refused to move out of the neighborhood, she wanted to stay here, this was her home.”
My heartfelt condolences go out to the Hudson family during this very difficult time.
Mr. Blackwell, born Richard Selzer, died at the age of 86 of an intestinal infection. Mr. Blackwell was a fierce fashion critique before “fierce” became an overused catch phrase and no one was off limits.
He slammed Madonna, Britney Spears, Queen Elizabeth and even Marilyn Monroe. Born impoverished and illegitimate in a rough Brooklyn neighborhood in 1922, and only completing school up to the fifth grade, it’s safe to say that when faced with adversity, the fashion icon beat the odds.
His annual “worst dresed” list was feared by movie stars, musicians, actors and European royalty. It is his truthful, witty and funny “Worst Dressed” rankings, which began in the 1960s, that helped him become a household name.
As you know, everyone has copped his style, most without nearly as much flare. The onetime actor and model turned to fashion design with limited success, but his commentary was nothing less than noteworthy and catchy.
Mr. Blackwell was very passionate about his work and just so clever. No one can dish it out like he could. For everything he stood for and his gift of good taste and hilarity, he will truly be missed.
Some “Worst Dressed” comments:
Sharon Stone: “An over-the-hill Cruella DeVille.”
Barbra Streisand: “She looks like a masculine Bride of Frankenstein.”
Britney Spears: “Her bra-topped collection of Madonna rejects are pure fashion overkill.”
Queen Elizabeth: “From her majesty to her travesty.”
Bjork: “She dances in the dark — and dresses there, too.”
Madonna: “The Bare-Bottomed Bore of Babylon.”
Christina Aguilera: “A dazzling singer who puts good taste through the wardrobe wringer.”
Meryl Streep: “She looks like a gypsy abandoned by a caravan.”
