Alicia Keys Bio

Alicia Keys is a soul singer-songwriter, pianist, cellist, actress and humanitarian. Whew! Try to say that real fast.

Alicia was raised by her mother and graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School at the age of 16 as the school's valedictorian! She then attended Columbia University but dropped out to pursue music. Her musical journey was a difficult one.

The remarkably talented artist was once signed to Columbia Records and then Arista Records before moving onto release her debut album with J Records, a company which allowed her to have creative control.

AKeys picked up five Grammys in 2002 for her first record, Songs in A Minor. Her subsequent albums have also been huge. Her MTV Unplugged album has also been the first time an Unplugged record debuted at #1 ever since Nirvana's 1994 disc.

Alicia appeared on The Cosby Show when she was a little girl and has filmed adult rols in Smokin' Aces, The Nanny Diaries and The Secret Life of Bees.

Alicia Keys' Keep a Child Alive non-profit organization has provided medicine and resources to millions affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa.
