Ellen Pompeo is a Screen Actors Guild award-winning actress on Grey's Anatomy. She plays the main character and the narrator, Meredith Grey.

The waif actress is of Irish and Italian descent and was raised Catholic. When Ellen was only four years old, her mother passed away due to an overdose and her father soon remarried. Ellen was so skinny that she was nicknamed "the pencil"!

In 1996, Ellen was approached to appear in commercials for Citibank and L'Oreal. She began her career with minor roles on television shows like Strangers with Candy and Law & Order and a handful of films.

She moved to Los Angeles in 2001 and appeared in many major films such as Catch Me if You Can and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Her career took off relatively quickly, the talented Golden Globe nominee is one lucky b*tch.

Ellen also earns a surprising $200,000 per episode on Grey's Anatomy.

On November 9, 2007 Pompeo married record producer Chris Ivory. In April 2009 the couple announced that they're expecting their first child together.
