Bio

Marshall Bruce Mathers III aka Eminem and Slim Shady is an Academy  and Grammy Award winning rapper, record producer and actor. Eminem's 1999 debut album The Slim Shad LP earned the talented artist a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. His Marshall Mathers LP disc became the fastest-selling hip hop album in history. Not bad!

The rapper's success continued with subsequent albums The Eminem Show and work with Detroit hip hop group D12. Eminem won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Lose Yourself," a brilliant fast-paced song to accompany the biopic 8 Mile which was loosely based upon his life. In 2005 Eminem went on a hiatus but his new record Relapse will be released on May 19, 2009.

Controversy and the Caucasian rapper are synonymous. He grew up in a mostly African-American impoverished community and has been beaten to unconsciousness as a young child in school.

Known for his pop-culture satire, Marshall is like a male version of Kathy Griffin - no one is off limits. Even former Vice President Dick Cheney was insulted in one of Slim Shady's songs. But it is Eminem's violent lyrics about hating his mother, killing his ex-wife Kim and homophobia that have drawn strong criticism. Labeled a "homophobic," Eminem performed his hit "Stan" at the Grammy Awards while Sir Elton John played the piano and provided background vocals.

Eminem has always said that his father abandoned him and his mother when he was an infant. Eminem has a daughter, Haley Jade, whom he worships and has mentioned frequently in songs and interviews. He also has a large picture of Haley tattooed on his shoulder. Unlike his public persona, the rapper has a huge soft side.

In many ways Eminem is an complicated mixture of polar opposites. He doesn't believe that men should be with men, yet he performed with Elton John. He hates his ex-wife Kim, yet he married her twice; and he thinks men should be masculine heterosexuals, but he dresses up in drag in nearly all of his videos.

Marshall Mathers oozes with talent and has such a strong fanbase that he's able to break all the rules simultaneously.

Eminem will be upset when he sees these pictures of Mariah Carey dressed up like him for "Obsessed." Mariah Carey plays Eminem in her aptly titled song and video "Obsessed."
