Joan Rivers is a plastic surgery addict, attention whore and comedian, actress, talk show host, and businesswoman. She is known for her no holds barred commentary delivered via her raspy voice with a metropolitan New York accent.
Joan is the daughter of Russian Jewish Immigrants.
She received her B.A. in English Literature and anthropology from Barnard College and began doing stand-up comedy after a friend suggested it.
The once aspiring comedian also held jobs as a tour guide, writer/proofreader at an advertising agency and fashion consultant before her agent told her she should change her stage name to Joan Rivers.
The funny lady was married to James Sanger in 1955 but the marriage only lasted six months when Joan found out that he didn't want kids - he lied to her that he did before they had wed. Her second marriage was 10 years later! Joan married Edgar Rosenberg and they had one child, Melissa Warburg Rosenberg (now known as Melissa Rivers) was born on January 20, 1968.
