Joel Madden

Joel Madden Bio

Joel Madden is the lead singer of Good Charlotte.

He was born in an Irish-Catholic family and he's allegedly a devoted Christian. At the age of 16, Joel's dad abandoned his family which caused financial hardships. Joel then took various odd jobs to help his mother with the family bills. At the age of 20, and not a fan of his biological father, Joel changed his last paternal last name, Combs, to his mother's maiden name, Madden.

Good Charlotte was formed in 1995 when Joel was 16. He made a cameo appearance in 2001's Not Another Teen Movie and in 2004's Fat Albert as well as 2006's Material Girls.

Joel began a MADE clothing line with brothers Benji and Josh. In 2006 they changed the name to DCMA Collective.

Joel's charity work includes creating the Richie Madden Children's Foundation in 2007 with baby mama Nicole Richie. The charity allows items to be purchased for needy moms via an online registry. He is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Joel sounds good on paper with the exception that he dated a 17 year-old, Hilary Duff, when he was 24 and he's been dating Nicole Richie for years and hasn't put a ring on it. Nicole gave birth to his first child, Harlow Kate Madden on January 11, 2008 and in 2009 he announced that Nicole has been sperminated again.
