Kanye West is a rapper, record producer, singer and designer - aka "The voice of my generation."
His debut album The College Dropout was released in 2004, spawning various Billboard hits. His breakthrough success was followed by Late Registration, released in 2005, and then Graduation, a brilliant disc that Ye dropped in 2007. His most recent work, 808s & Heartbreak, was released in 2008.
Kanye West also puts his money where his mouth is. He started the "Kanye West Foundation" in 2003. The foundation is focused on helping Latino and African American children stay in school and to get a proper education through grade school, high school, and college.
The foundation also focuses on helping children through music. He has contributed over $500k to his foundation.
On September 2, 2005, during a benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina relief on NBC, A Concert for Hurricane Relief, West was a featured speaker. Kanye abandoned the script and said that "hates" the way blacks are being portrayed in the media as looting while whites are not. He also gave one hell of an infamous quote with - "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Burn. Sizzle!
He has picked up numerous awards for his records, and if he doesn't cop a trophy, the short rapper has been known to throw a tantrum.
Kanye threw an infamous tantrum when he didn't pick up a few industry awards and vowed to boycott MTV. He later performed at the MTV awards.
Some of Kanye's accolades include being ranked #8 by About.com's "Top 50 Hip-Hop Producers" list and on May 16, 2008, MTV crowned him the year's #1 "Hottest MC in the Game."
When 50 Cent told Kanye West that he would quit rapping if Kanye's Graduation record outsold his Curtis album, Kanye beat him to a pulp, selling 957,000 copies in one week!
Kanye has moved into designing expensive shoes now. His fans have even camped out to cop his new kicks. It's evident that his fans will support him in all that his endeavors.
