Mel Gibson

Bio

Mel Gibson was born in the States but grew up in Australia from age 12.

It wasn't until he starred in Gallipoli, a World War I film, that he earned his second Australian Film Institute Award.

He reached iconic status with the Lethal Weapon series and has played many different characters in a long roster of films. His fan base is strong and critics have favored him.

Mel became a very rich man when he directed and independently financed 2004's The Passion of the Christ. He put an anti-Semitic slant on the film - some allege - and many were outraged. However, controversy often = sales + public interest. The film smashed records.

In July 2006, Mel made anti-Semitic remarks when he was arrested for drunk driving. The funniest of his insults was "sugar tits!" which he allegedly said to a female officer. Gotta love it.

Mr. Gibson later checked into rehab but his fall from grace has been quite devastating. Many fans have been unable to view the talented actor in a favorable light.
