2012 Academy Award Nominations Announced ()
The 2012 Academy Award nominations were announced this morning. As expected, Hugo, The Descendants, and The Artist were the year's most nominated films.
Bio
Rooney Mara is the rising star who got her start last year in the Nightmare on Elm Street re-make. She then went on to appear in the Oscar-winning film The Social Network, which helped earn her her breakout role in director David Fincher's highly-anticipated The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Mara has an interesting upbrigning, in which football played a central role. Her grandfather owned the New York Giants and her great-grandfather was the founder and first owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rooney remains a football fan and recently revealed that she favors the Giants over the Steelers.
In addition to acting, Rooney is passionate about charity work. She's been honored for her work as founder of Faces of Kibera, an organization that provides food, clothing, and medical care for children in Nairobi, Kenya. Though attitude and priorities may be very different from those of the typical Hollywood actress, with the raves her work has been receiving recently, you can expect to see her around for a long time.
