Scarlett I. Johansson is an actress and singer known for her flawless classic Hollywood glamour and her various critically acclaimed films.
She was born in New York City to an architect father, screenwriter and director grandfather, and a producer mother. It runs in the family!
However, like many struggling artists, Scarlett said that she grew up in a family with "a little money." She also has an older sister and twin brother.
It's her 1998 role in The Horse Whisperer that launched her into fame. She has also received critical acclaim for her roles in Ghost World, Lost in Translation, and Girl With a Pearl Earring.
Johansson won a BAFTA for Lost in Translation and received a Golden Globe nod for Pearl Earring.
Johansson began dating Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds in 2007, and on May 5, 2008, it was reported that the two were engaged. Within weeks, Johansson released her first studio album, Anywhere I Lay my Head, a collection of Tom Waits covers.
On September 27, 2008, Johansson and Reynolds were married at a quiet ceremony outside Vancouver, Canada.
She is a Global Ambassador for the aid and development agency, Oxfam. She is also a Democrat who has campaigned for John Kerry and Barack Obama. ScarJo has always said that she is proud of her curves and refuses to be skinny. She is a great role model and serious actress who knows how to stay out of the tabloids.
