Bio

Serena Williams became a tennis star in the late 1990s and hasn't slowed down since. As an African-American, Serena and sister Venus became iconic figures and inspirations to many.

Serena was a child prodigy, playing tennis before she even entered kindergarten.

Growing up in Compton, Serena's father, Richard Williams, kept his children away from the violence by coaching and inspiring them on the tennis court.

The grand slam winner is a confident powerhouse. Standing at 5'10 and serving speed balls, Ms. Williams is a force to be reckoned with.

A dominant figure on the court, Serena was also responsible for achieving the "Serena slam," impressively holding four grand titles simultaneously: the 2002 French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open titles, and the 2003 Australian Open.

Her other major titles are Wimbledon in 2003, the Australian Open in 2005, 2007, and 2009, and the U.S. Open in 2008.

From 2004 to 2005, Serena dated director Brett Ratner. In 2007, she was linked to Miami Heat Forward Udonis Haslem and actor Jackie Long of ATL & Idlewild fame.

Williams was dating rapper Common in 2008, although when asked on February 25, 2009, about her dating status, Williams said, "Right now, I'm dating my tennis racquet."

Serena currently resides at Ballen Isles in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She also has an apartment in Paris.
