Why does this person feel compelled to evaluate Elizabeth Edwards by her looks rather than the content of her character? Such superficiality!
Not that it matters, but I have always thought Elizabeth Edwards was gorgeous at every age; I was looking for photos when I read this despicable comment. Not only did she have her trials, but guess what: we look different at 60 than we do at 18. Her weight was perfectly normal and appropriate for a 60 year old, post-menopausal woman.
Elizabeth Edwards did not "let herself go", she got older and looked like a beautiful older women. The only way to avoid aging is with artificial means like plastic surgery, which in fact makes people look hideous, not young, or to die even younger than she did. When will people reject the cult of youth and its mysogynistic pressures on women, and realize that getting older is not a bad or ugly thing? It's a gift, not a curse.
