It didn’t take very long for the NBC comedy, Community, to gather a cult like following. The main reason the show has touched the hearts of so many people stems from the fact that there’s nothing quite like it on television. It’s unique, well written, and kind of brilliant. Many fans watch Community online and love it!
The premise of the show is simple and very unorthodox. The writers decided to base the show on a lawyer who has been suspended. In order to get back in the courtroom, the lawyer needs to take some classes and opts to enroll in a local community college. This puts him in a situation where he can interact with a wide number of different characters and becomes involved in a variety of crazy situations.
When the fourth season ended, fans were very concerned. Despite the fact that Community has had a very loyal and vocal fan base since its very first season, the show has never received the high viewing figures that it probably should. Many fans watch Community online, especially when it’s compared to similar comedies like Parks and Recreation, How I met Your Mother, and The Big Bang Theory. The fact that NBC had purchased the rights to two brand new sitcoms made fans even more nervous; they were worried that the broadcasting station had decided to replace the show, forever.
Community fans breathed a collective sigh of relief when NBC announced that in addition to canceling the two new sitcoms, which failed to perform well, they were in fact bringing Community back for a fifth season. There’ll be more opportunities to watch Community online.
Most people feel that deciding to bring Community back was one of the smartest decisions NBC has made in a really long time.
Why ‘Community’ Works
Sometimes it’s difficult to understand why a show works and why it doesn’t, but Community is different. All it takes is watching a couple of episodes to understand why the show has become a favorite.
There are show elements that anyone will be able to relate to. It’s so easy to watch the show and imagine the scenes really happening at a local community college. Even more importantly, most fans of the show have either found themselves in similar situations or know someone similar to at least one of the regular characters. The show manages to do all this without ever giving the impression that the writers are talking down to the viewers.
The fact that the show’s dialog is riddled with fantastic contemporary cultural references makes it even easier for fans to relate to and enjoy the program.
Why Bringing the Show Back is a Good Move
NBC has been really struggling over the past few years. They don’t have a really big show that has legions of viewers tuning in week after week. Bringing back Community means that they can be assured of at least one reasonably strong showing during the week. The station should be able to use Community as a lead-in to new shows fans will enjoy.
The best thing about NBC’s decision to keep Community going is that it shows the powers that be are willing to listen to fans and give them what they want. It indicates that the network will most likely allow Community to progress naturally and that the writers will have plenty of time to conclude story arcs, and when the time is right, create an ending fans will love. Allowing the beloved show to do this means fans will feel some measure of loyalty and respect for NBC.
When You Can Catch the Newest Episodes
If you’re already a fan of the show, you don’t have much longer to wait for the debut of the sixth season. NBC has scheduled the first episode to air on January 2, 2014, which will be an hour long episode.
If you haven’t yet had an opportunity to watch Community, now’s the time to start! The best way to start is by watching Community online and treating yourself to a marathon. You’re going to find that curling up with a couple of episodes after dinner is a great way to spend the holiday season.
