Being a teenager is a tough time for anyone, but spare a thought for poor Sasha Obama who can’t even go on Facebook to nose around on her friends’ lives, all because her dad is the President of the United States. That is soooo unfair!
She might be the daughter of the leader of the free world, but Sasha isn’t free to poke people on Facebook like other girls her age. In an interview with Babara Walters on ABC’S 20/20, Barack and Michelle revealed that Sasha, 12, isn’t old enough (in their opinion) to use the social networking site while her big sis Malia, 15, only gets limited access.
“I still am not a big believer in Facebook for young people … particularly for them, because they’re in the public eye,” the First Lady said. “Some of it’s stuff they don’t need to see and be a part of … So we try to protect them from too much of the public voice.”
Don’t worry Sasha, you’re not missing much, apart from Farmville and Candy Crush invitations. However, the 12-year-old is turning out to be quite the fashionista as her clothing choices are causing a stir in stores – with girls flocking to the shops to emulate her style.
One thing Sasha will have a say on, according to her parents, is whether the family will stay in Washington D.C or move back home to Chicago once the president’s second term ends in 2017.
“Sasha will have a big vote,” Barack admitted, adding that his family has “made a lot of sacrifices on behalf of my cockamamie ideas, the running for office and things.” By then she’ll probably have discovered Twitter or Instagram anyway, so I’m sure she won’t be too bothered.
